Nvidia Surround

With the recent surround drivers, enabling the post render filter in game drops framerates by 90%. I don't know if this is a bug with our game, or an nvidia driver issue, but I thought it would be good info to pass along.

And I know this isn't the appropriate area for this - but a request which will no doubt fall on the right ears.

If possible, please work with Nvidia to enable 3d in game. Thanks.

But I thought the render issue would be good to pass on.

I'll pass it on. We don't have a surround gaming set up here so I probably can;t test it BUT if the NEw driver has a problem and the OLD one didn;t...well...probably the driver but who knows?

Thanks for the heads up.

For a bit more info Gophur (sorry for bumping):

Previously I used a triplehead2go system and it was good. Pain in the arse to get working properly, but effective.

The surround driver is only two beta releases old. The first release I was unable to play as I went down to sub 20's framerates. The second release did the same thing. When I dropped to lowest settings though my rates went up dramatically. I was able to narrow it down to the one setting, and thought it would be good info.

BTW I did this on the first release as well, but the resulting piss poor framerate remained, so I had rolled back and used the triplehead in the meantime.

As far as the 3d thing goes it's simple - either nvidia has to allow for opengl implementation in thier drivers, or bge would have to render in directx.

Hey, a feller can dream can't he?

As new systems come out I think you will be seeing lots more 3d capable systems from the big two graphics card companies. I used to love playing this with my old revlelators. :)

I use a triple head and I've never had any issues at all. What is causing you grief there?

Nothing with the triplehead - but it IS difficult to get it to work properly under Windows 7. There is a fix posted on the widescreen gaming forums that works well - but out of the box if you use an os other than xp you will run into trouble getting your resolutions to run natively - but that's another subject altogether. That issue is fixed by creating custom resolutions via the nvidia driver and tweaking the refresh to 59.xxx hrz. It's different for most monitor setups. The widescreen gaming forum is essential reading for anyone using a triplehead2go setup, imho.

Nvidia's solution should gain momentum, but it seems they are still having some issues in the opengl department. This game really does not like some settings (ie: post render filter) (on an Nvidia setup using surround). Yet run it in triplehead2go and you're golden. Trouble is I'm not planning on using the triplehead2go anymore - I'd have to swap out the unit and driver setup every time I wanted to bounce between BGE and something else that utilizes the 3d effect, and I'd lose my 120hz refresh rate.

I just grabbed new drivers last night and will test them out to provide you with more feedback. Cheers!
