Lazy view frustum culling update rate not fixed.

The low update rate for view frustum culling makes it possible to see enemy units behind foliage.

Many players are abusing this.

I have no idea what that is, but i think i see it happening, if i suddenly turn around, the gfx updates just a tad bit on the slow side, so i can see things, then the foilage draws in quickly.

On a similar note, another thing i noticed was foilage at the edge of the screen sometimes disappears, noticed this in 1.31 only, is this a render feature or a bug?

Culling is expensive on lower end machines especially so it's been tweaked to try and minimize the impact if you are stationary. Blah blah blah really...

I'm trying to replicate the bushes blinking in on the screen edge (frustum) but I cam only replicate with trees FAR in the distance (billboards) unless I run a really wide screen resolution (3840x1024).

Is there an easy way/place to replicate this or is it a hardware issue?

I've noticed this effect before, although I never really noticed that units draw in before foliage at the edge of the screen.

Also, doesn't seem to be something that happens all the time - I've only noticed it on occasion. Could be different from spawn to spawn?

I don't know if my problem, where bushes didn't render at the edge of the screen is the same as this one.

If it's to any help I run in 1024x768 resolution.

It also always happens.

The culling rate is not static so you will not notice it in irrelevant scenes with high frame rates.

This can be seen/abused easily by panning a tank cannon back and forth with the most narrow FOV. Enemy units that are completely hidden by bushes can be spotted easily this way and an more and more players are definitely abusing this. This has even been talked about several times on open channels.

This is a completely unacceptable in my opinion and not even offline games of lowest quality use lazy view frustum culling as a mean to save frame time.

Seeing it too. Pretty sure it showed up at max settings and later with some settings turned off. Don't think I've seen it other than in a tank.

fwiw:

Core I5-750

XMX ATI 5750

19" wide screen monitor 5ms

Win7 64

I have seen it as infantry, but only when i wildly thrash my mouse movements left to right...

I've seen this as well, but it's not necessarily new to 1.31. I have been able to turn a gun sight or binocs slightly to the left or right and have bushes disappear. Once I move past a certain point, or move back, they render again. This was not done with a quick movement either. Almost like a clump of bushes didn't render until the center point was in the line of sight.

NVIDIA 8800 GTS

Q6600 Processor

6GB RAM

Win 7 (but also noticed in the past with XP)

Had this happen to me yesterday at Montmedy I think.. Turn around saw a black thing on the hill side about 1km away and then the bushes rendered. Got my binos and scanned the bushes and found myself an Opel..
