Footstep audio absent?

Something I've been noticing of late with infantry avatars, 3rd person footstep audio seems to be a little messed up...in that you don't hear the other persons footsteps at all.

I'm playing on 64 sounds, with surround sound on my headset, and just now in quiet Lueven I was stabbed in the back (hats off to the chap who did that) in the Sheep Farm CP, top floor. Didn't hear a single footstep.

Anyone else been finding this? My own footsteps come in loud and clear on my headset, but not EIs. Most annoying.

On the most recent occasion, not sure, as I had my back to him the whole time, but it is something that I have noticed recently when EI run into CPs and up the stairs to the soft sound of silence, or the footstep audio will start after a few seconds of silence. Most peculiar, as 1.30 I was always able to hear footstep audio, especially in CPs (as thats where you'd find me then).

I have noticed this as well. I just started playing again right at the end of 1.30 and third person footsteps are gone for me. There has been many times when I have been looking out a window and someone comes tearing up from behind and shoot me in the back without hearing a sound.

I almost always hear it. I have all 128 sound files selected and run 7 to 1 surround, either thru an M-Audio speaker setup or thru my surround LogicT headphones.

A lot of resources directed at audio. But audio is 1/2 the game. Try to increase your sound file and/or run surround. I found stereo audio to cause a lot of footstep problems. Even when it doesnt you just cant nail enemies by their sound like you can with surround sound.

With all sounds selected, and with surround, you can tell any enemy, their gun, their direction, just by their sound.
