Feedback - Concussion Bug

If you experience the concussion bug please .report it immediately and also come here to describe the event.

In 1.31.5 we removed the screen shake effect and added an automatic report when we "think" you might be getting the concussion bug. This is not foolproof and will give us many false positives.

We are working to squash this bug but the information we have gotten is not yet sufficient. You can help by detailing your experience here.

What effects were playing?

  • screen shake
  • red screen
  • blur
  • sounds
  • others

What was the frequency of the bug? Was it continuous or sporadic?

When did it go away?

How often do you get it?

If you get it often does changing a setting like sounds or low memory have any effect?

Did you get a screen shot or a movie?

Is there something that seems to trigger it for you?

Any information is valuable but what we really need is details. We appreciate you helping track this one down.

And while it may also be a long shot, give us a brief system description, cpu, gpu, sound should be sufficient.

UPDATE 09-20-2010

We've made several changes to the client in order to fix any places where the concussion effects might get played repeatedly when they shouldn't.

Please test this executable even if you don;t get the concussion bug and report on your results.

Please note in your post if you previously had the concussion bug, what exactly the effects are you were seeing and what changes this executable made for you.

Installer for new executable:

http://installers.wwiionline.com/ww2conctest.exe

Installer to revert to the release executable in case there are issues:

http://installers.wwiionline.com/ww2release.exe

initial reports show a reduction in concussion reports from players. If you experience this regularly please post here after trying these executables.

This is the SS I took when driving a beddy from the west ab at Verdun down to the far south bridge and just after I had crossed the bridge.

I have also gotten the bug when I have driven for a bit and set up a MSP then spawned in. It usually starts (for me) with a high pitched whistle than stops when I start to run then when my inf gets down about 1/4 stamina I get the bug which consits of shakes and loud pounding noises. Sometimes it will stop if I rest but usually will restat when I run again and get down on stamina.

Its like being hit repeatedly with bofor fire.

This was all before you guys fixed anything. I'll try it later and see if it's gone.

Tested it yesterday with your previous "unofficial patch", got the bug while i was aiming a bofor (the bofor wasn't shooting, at least not rendering so) :

sshot583.png

For some reasons when i made the screenshot the bug stopped.

The funny part is when the guy started to shoot back.. got no concussion, well pretty sure but need to be tested again.

No bug yet with .5 patch...

Just had my real taste of the concussion bug. It started after I had a despawn screen freeze-up at results pending screen. then a relog to an empty spawn list. Then relog to game.

Funny but last night I got a new type of CB. Usually I get the ground shake a la mode but last night I got the intermittent blood pounding to head CB with no ground shake. It was just about every 15 seconds I would get a cycle of blood pound and heart rate just like as if I had ran to exhaustion.

Restarted the game and it was gone. For me the bug is a once a night thing so no big deal. But last nights was a new type.

i .reported but i think this is important enough to put in here too. Me and a squad mate (Strike69) both grabbed laffys at the same time out of the tillburg arendonk allied fb to tillburg and we both have a severe concussion bug at the same time. Then half way to town we both had it stop at the same time. Then almost to town we both had it start again at the same time. We were not driving close as we set up in 2 different parts of town. It was what I would imagine driving very drunk would be like. The left side kinda looked like everything was on a hill slope.

I am sorry I missed the message to do a .report, but will do so next occasion.

I have never had the concussion bug before this patch .5 and I did not even know what it was until I experienced it.

Shortly after installing the patch, I was outside of Turnout with a Flak-30 and my commander was slightly wounded but the gunner was undamaged when all of a sudden I began getting the concussion bug coupled with the heartbeat sounds.

I could switch between commander and gunner and I'd have a few seconds of no bug and then it would resume.

Cheers,

Joe

at the aachen attack...on airfield strike69 and I had a audio concussion bug, jsut the audio part with the heartbeat and noise. Then we both respawned at the aachen/eupen allied fb and both still had it. He rebooted, and me and slr both grabbed panhards...we both got full concussion bug and couldn't do nothing as our fb was taken down. We are all getting it at the same time on the same missions.

It seems that whatever you did to automatically report the concussion bug has missed the mark. I have had many automatic reports, none have which have occurred when I've had the bug. I've also had the concussion bug many times, none of which have been automatically reported. Sometimes it's screen shake, sometimes it's just hearbeat. Also it's rather odd that occasionally when you first spawn in, the panting noise is going. What's that about?

I just got the concussion bug for the first time and as I was out in the middle of nowhere ambusing PZs with my M10 it was clear what caused the concussion bug on my end:

Aircraft engine audio or heavy AI AA from AF

When a aicraft engine sound (fighter) styarted to play I got the concussion bug. When the aircraft flew out of range the bug stopped.

Not ALL aircraft sounds triggered it but it it was clearly tied to this somehow.

I was close to a AF also so there was some AI AA explosions involved also but the bug seemed more connected to the engine sound start/stop.

After sitting out in nowhere with my tank enjoying this for a while it actually seems to be triggered by the AI AA firing from Mulheim AF. It seems connected to the actual firing of the AI AA guns and not the explosions in the air as the bug stops well before the last round in air explodes.

  • 2 weeks later...

Strange thing here.

I've had auto-reports when I haven't had the concussion bug, and no auto-reports when I've had it...

I had the bug earlier today, but didn't know to .report it. Anyways, I spawned in as a sniper at the Grobbendonk-Shilde depot, and crossed Grobbendonk Bridge to the south. The bug started shortly after crossing the bridge. At the time Grobbendonk was being bombed by EA and the AA AI was firing.

I experienced continuous audio concussion with a slight pause between concussion noise. As I continued walking west the noise slowly began to fade and eventually stopped. The objective on Groddendonk was pulled around this time, so it's difficult to say whether it was my advancing westward or the ceasing of the attack that led to concussion noise stopping.

I am getting a Headache just from reading all these reports.

I have gotten concussion bug mostly in vehicles. I've gotten in once as inf. I also sometimes just get the audio and pray it doesn't start up. I am usually not alone either, I announce the concussion bug is foiling my devious plans and somebody else says they've got the same thing.

I just got the concussion bug at LeChesne while sitting on a rooftop. It started as a single audio, then a few minutes later the audio repeated itself (4 heartsbeats and the ringing tone, then a short break). A minute later I was shot and the bug stopped, when I respawned it didn't occur again.

The intervalls between the concussion sounds seemed to be very regular. It also seemed as if rifle-shots had an effect on the invervalls (a rifle shot heard during the bug seemed to prolong it for a split second).

Concussion bug Lechesne tonight 13:00 and after was very bad, many logged including myself. Made it impossible to defend ( I was AA as were many ). This is getting rediculous. Please make this top priority as it effects all guns within a certain area at the same time and is the biggest game play distraaction for the majority of players in a given combat situation. It makes it so any push guns are rendered helpless and useless. There are a bunch of push gun devotees that are about ready to call this game quits because, like myself, that is why we like the game. Move it up on the priority list please.
