[Navy] DD gun range bug (from stone age)

Reported over 2 years ago, I was told it is confirmed but probably fixed past 1.27 ... well it seems technically that answer still can be valid (rolleyes), but I thought I'd give it another try since after my return to the game I am somewhat disappointed to have it still exisiting.

One example on how to reproduce ...

1.Spawn DD, go to main gun (pos. 3)

2. set main gun range to 3000+

3. go to spotter (pos. 2), zoom in, go back to main gun (pos. 3)

4. Now align gun like in picture

ddbug1.JPG

5. without leaving pos. 3, decrease range till you line up with horizon (or any other mark you can remember)

ddbug2.JPG

6. Now go to pos. 2, zoom in, go back to pos. 3, zoom in, you will find:

ddbug3.JPG

That means the change of the range and the visual change of the crosshair are out of synch ... i feel that can be EASILY fixed, escpecially since it is so reproduceable.

I know it's "only the navy", still back then it was so annoying to know from your experience that this shot MUST hit your opponent, and then you miss for no obvious reason. Such frustration is what drives people away ....

  • 4 months later...

Unable to replicate.

test 1

  • spawn DD offline
  • go to pos3
  • see fire board
  • zoom in
  • set range to 3k
  • go to pos2
  • zoom in
  • goto pos3
  • zoom in
  • set crosshairs on bottom pf pylon
  • decrease range until crosshairs align on top of pylon
  • go to pos2
  • zoom in
  • goto pos3
  • zoom in
  • see crosshairs on same spot atop the pylon

Expected Functionality.

Can I get someone else to replicate please?

Now that a strange one then, just went into offline mode quickly and checked it even for all 3 DD types (French/Brit/German), it's always the same, and it's been like that years ago. Have a completely new machine meanwhile, fresh started config.

It may not be related, but then again I have seen stranger things happen ... what video card do you have Gophur? The only common thing I had over the years was an NVidia card (although different ones still).

Would it help if I make a video of it?

I'm running a Radeon HD5850.

I don't think GPU would affect it but as you say, I've seen stranger things.

Is my test method exactly what you are doing? Did I maybe get a step wrong?

Do you have a joystick and is it mapped to the main guns traverse/elevate?

I'm able to replicate the bug.

1. Restart fresh game client in offline mode.

2. Spawn brit DD in offline default training spawnpoint.

3. Got to position 3 (main guns)

4. Go to gunsight view. 2 x press = Max zoomed in.

5. Set range 6000m

6. Aim guns at easy-to remember reference point. (I used water line at the shore straight ahead of the ship)

7. Change to crew 2.

8. Change back to crew 3.

9. Go to gunsight view. Max zoomed in.

>>> Notice aim moved.

I didn't even change any range settings. The crew change does something with the gunsight.

Ill back his claim up with something similar.

Spawn in DD.

Go to Pos 3 and Set range to anything

Move to the AA cannons on each side of the ship (pos 6?)

Decrease range to Zero

Go back to front guns

Try to figure out where in the world your aiming

In my case I went lopsided.

When I did this, my front guns decided to do the lacukaracha on the deck, spinning around like mad, aiming straight up into the sky. Firing them makes them shoot in the direction before they started dancing. I'll get video if needed. I pulled up next to Pariah2x to see if it was just my game or not, believe he saw it too.

PS : One other thing. The image of the guns on the deck reversed and got stuck in the forbidden half of the arc that aims right back into the cabin.

If you set the range to 0 on the other guns, when you switch to the mainn guns they are pointing up at the sky, and some are reversed. Just increase your range to fix it.

This has existed as long as the destroyers have.
