Please use this thread for feedback on the PPO Gun Emplacement that is placed by the sapper unit.

Player Placed Objects:

We've added a new type of Server Tracked Object to this release, the Player Placed Object (PPO). These objects are only the first in a series of objects we hope to allow players to use to impact the battle they are in by affecting the world around them.

  • Infantry players may now place certain objects in the world
  • Sappers can place a gun emplacement
  • All other infantry/paratroopers can place an infantry fighting position
  • These objects cannot be destroyed
  • Infantry units have a new entrenching or build tool
  • When using this tool you will have visible feedback if you can place an object
  • Infantry go to kneeling while placing the object
  • There is a build timer to place the object
  • There is a cool down timer on the entrenchment tool once it has been used before it can be used again
  • These can be placed online or offline
  • There is a limit on how many can be placed in an area by each side *
  • There are no map icons because these objects are not part of strat
  • There is a buffer around each object so that they may not be placed too close together or too close to other objects
  • These objects cannot be placed on cobblestones or airfield or roads etc.
  • These objects cannot be placed if another player is intersecting their placement position

Update 1.32.0.8:

  • Moved the ghost object closer
  • Decreased the buffer zone surrounding this object

Known Issues:

  • the auto removal function is not working
  • the quantity limit is not working

GUN EMPLACEMENT
  • Can be placed by sappers only

  • Will be able to accommodate smaller class of AT guns

  • Build timer: 120 seconds, interruptible (moving/damage)

  • Cool down timer (Determining when another GE can be placed): TBD

  • Placement limitations: Not on water, airfields, within 3 meters of buildings, limited number per area (TBD)

  • Destroyable: No

  • Time-out rules: GE will vanish after being abandoned for 30 minutes (timer resets to 0 every time any unit, friendly or other, is within 3 meters)

I find the bold text to be untrue. Having tested the GE I've found you can easily fit all three Tier 2 ATGs into the GE except the 17pdr, which takes a little more work. Is this intentional, an oversight or a bug?

It is possible to clip into the wall by:

1) standing inside the gun emplacement, as infantry, looking out through the gun hole

2) walk towards an edge, strafing into the wall and kind of wiggling back and forth

3) walk forwards and backwards, sliding along the edge

I could clip into the edge of the object 3/3 times I tried.

Also it looks like the collision geometry doesn't match the visual on the outside corners, especially in the areas that are under the overhang (between the wood roof and the dirt sides). It is the worst when looking from the front towards the rear, where it is possible to put bullet holes in thin air when clearly firing through the space underneath the overhang.

I managed to get 2 GE ppos clipped inside each other. I don't know how I did it, kept flickering red and green and finally allowed me to build partially into the other GE.

Also inf float very high above GEs when standing on top of them.

I though they were supposed to resupply atgs as well. :confused:

Resupply is disabled in offline AFAIK.

CRS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rotate the the ghosted IFP placement object 180 deg so that the front "gun opening" is facing us. IFPs are going to be most useful around bushes and being able to see exactly where that opening will land inside a bush would help alot.

Right now you have to get behind the bush and place them blindly.

i dislike the idea that the sapper is used for this. actually we have 40 sapper available and most are misused as rifle replacement. with this new option the sapper will be even more limited and this is wrong.

why don't you strengthen the rifleman? so also new players can use this option and start with additional fun in this game.

Guys, please rename these ATG emplacements!

I've been so excited about getting some protection in the field for the bofors - so I download the client, run it, and what does my sapper build - an ATG pit!

No value what so ever and I feel like I'm let down again. Couldn't you be bothered to model something new that worked for all 'guns' in game - offering some level of protection to the AAA guns, not just ATG's??

Dissapointed - and I've just sent my development contribution too - I feel robbed!

Oh - and it dissapeared after 3 minutes - how quickly do you think a sapper will get to a setup spot, build the thing and then drive himself back with a tow as the gun he wants to put in the 'ATG Emplacement' - it's going to take considerably longer than 3 minutes.

Just tell me if I'm missing something here?

Sat Oct 2 pst 1400,, downloaded the .08 patch ,, spawned in inf ,, all inf PPO is the resupply/spawn unit,, no atg bunkers for sappers, no fighting positons for anyone,, all inf classes were making the resupply/ spawn units only,, bugged?,, and whats up with the FB black tents and trailers being black???..

BTW.. all things worked right offline ,, online was really messed up for me ,, friday night and sat morning,, after I downloaded the new little patch 1.32,0,08

Well crapola Matt,, forgot to check that,, does not seem right though,, ML should be able to take cover like anyone else..lol I can see a lot of .makeleader coming,, I want a hole to get into,,lol thanks,,, what about the fb vech spawn black tents??

Hopefully next patch or before release a revetment can be put in a lot like the inf revetment but bigger, for tanks/AAA.

(OFFLINE TESTS ONLY)

1. 3rd person view

This needs testing on the BETA server ... Below was offline using clones, so it might not be as bad?

These GE may or may not be any use to AT, but they are - currently - going to be of much use to inf.

The little patch of dirt on top of the GE acts much like the berms around the IFP. In 3rd person the avatar hides beneath this dirt - He can see you, you cannot see him.

* This is worsened if the GE is placed so that its front is on a slope (raising it up on an angle)

I can post screenies, but would be good if someone tested it online first (rather than a clone test)

* - 2. If you place with some part of the GE on a slope the model does not fit perfectly to the terrain, when prone the gap between the ends of the GE and the terrain are obvious, there is also a problem walking onto them in this state.

3. Lighting: the models behave a little differently than the terrain. Depending on where you are in relation to the sun you will see a different colour to the grass texture. At some angles it blends perfectly, at other it does not.

This is annoying (but hardly a show-stopper) - But, for look & feel, I'd be tempted to make them a dirt bank, and do away with terrain matching altogether?

4. Placement: With some practice I was able to get the GE to place exactly where I wanted it (with bushes concealing entrance both front and back, for example). I would suggest no changes, just another "skill" people need to develop (placing a FRU by truck is similar)

Make the front opening much smaller on the GE to offer better protection. They are kind of useless for an ATG because they don't offer much frontal protection but attract a lot of attention. They are death traps for an ATG.

I managed to build us a small GE fort of eight GE in an eight-point star shape in a very tight grouping. :cool:

What I really missing is the ability to place a FRU in the middle, i.e inside a GE.

Unless CRS sees a good reason for not allowing us creating our own stronghold do I see no reason to not allow this.

I did the same and was fun to see what you can create. Also played around with creating a wide IFP berm by placing several in a line. That way you could have a dozen soldiers fighting together.

I am afraid thats also not possible anymore. Wonder if they could program it like this: if ppo is next to other ppo=>use this distance rule but if if ppo is next to building (or whatever)=>use another distance rule.
