Sounds to me like CPU overloading. Often caused by another program running in the background eating resources, like a update or something - or - a problem loading up the next area of terrain as you move through the environment - or a combination of the two.

I suggest turning off as many other programs as possible to start. Then try enabling the Low Memory Option in the Preferences tab.

Hopefully you have 4 GB of RAM and CPU of 3 GHz or better?

This program will help in turning off unneeded programs.

I had that on my desktop computer. Was the CPU on the mainboard overheating and going nuts. It took a new CPU to clear up the issue.

Was NOT a video card problem for me.
