much as romzy's posting style can give me headaches (and the fact that he's "nevar wrong!!"), that post pretty much nails it on the head.

sgtchief:

romz you['re] my damn hero

sydney:

ya know, at first romsburg, you rubbed me the wrong way and i wasn't a fan. But over the past 12 months, you have really grown on me. You're precise, well spoken and although you are sometimes a little harsh, you are most often correct and in proper context with your responses.

irelandeb:

indeed he's one of the few voices of common sense on these forums

jw:

if you're going to argue with romz, do your homework before you post. He gets it, and you can't teach common sense, you have to be born with it.

pete, linc & julie:

i can't say [any]thing else [than] that the ban was justified considering that you have an 'impressive' tos history....

owilde:

the only thing worse than being talked about is *not* being talked about.

Like we have always said, but is always equally disputed, AI in the game is not that accurate. Depending on your movement (or not) AND your angle to it, it can seem to shoot all day and not get you. Other times it seems like it is guided by laser.

In reality, and we tested this a lot in setting it up, and it is many times more often NOT accurate rather than able to kill you instantly. We did this on purpose because we didn't want it to be uber at all.

Of course, when you die to AI, you don't know or recall how many times it shot at you and never came close to hitting you. It's just that uber robot laser driven piece of @%# and I fully understand that sentiment.

We'll test some more but I got it to kill me too, so I don't know if we can prove it isn't killing infantry.

In .10,Ihave been killed by AI,running to town.I also have been missed by AI,it was shooting but never got me.

In Verdun,if not mistaken.Open AB,ran to AI facing Veh spawn, opposite to bunker.Ground AI

looking directly at me,never shot a bullit.Stood right next to it,facing the lmg.

Well that might be an INDIVIDUAL bad AI, as in not part of strat (that can happen depending on how it is placed in the terrain as an object, ie: start tagging) ... since each one is placed individually 1 at a time.

We took the report to be GLOBAL in nature based on the report itself, and replied previously on that basis.

Now we can go look at each individual AI in the location specified (Verdun AB you say ? Which one?) and see if one of them isn't part of strat, and thus won't shoot at anything because it's in that case, no more enemy/friendly than a tree.

I had one today take FOREVER to kill me.

Nothing in the data has changed and I can't imagine what code changed but we'll keep our eye on this one.

Verdun East AB.I was inside the veh spawn, looking right across to the bunker. There is an AI LMG pit with gun pointed to veh.Might not be a bug, just a lazy MG'er.

Yeah, the important thing is determining that :

1. AI bullets still do damage when they hit you (yup they do)

2. That infantry aren't invulnerable (nope they aren't)

3. That AI themselves weren't changed in data (they weren't)

So now it's a question of "why the almost complete lack of almost any accuracy in some cases but not others?" - I managed to get killed 4 times in a row in as many minutes by the same AI that took 20 minutes to hit another player. Obviously we both could be killed by that AI but the consistancy was wildly off compared to what I expected from past experience.

It's not so much the AI being so inaccurate that's the issue, it's why they became more so. Like, is something else affected we don't even know about yet? To answer that or have any hope of determining that without finding it directly by accident, you have to know what happened and where.

Is AI a function of *my* game code, or the server's game code?

If there are 3 soldiers, all 20 yards apart on a line perpendicular to the AI's center-of-arc, do each of those three players experience being shot at simultaneously?

Or does the AI choose one to shoot at at a time?

Is *my* game code making the AI shoot at me, and then deciding if I was hit or not? Or is some other mechanism in place, and my game code just gets the message that I got hit when that other code determines it?

It is local to you BUT since it all uses the same code to determine targets then you all will almost always see it shooting at the same person.

For instance I've never once seen it not shooting the same person on my two machines in many years of testing though I know that it is theoretically possible.

Ah, I see, thanks.
