HUGE FPS drops with 1.33

Since 1.33 i got huge fps drops. I got v-sync on and got normally always a steady 60 fps .. only in huge fights it droped to 45 fps.

Now i got 30fps drops lots of times even in silent area`s (not always but quite often). I can see it`s caused by CPU load and not by GPU load.

My system

Running 2560x1440 4AA 16AF

Win 7 64 bit.

i7 2600K @ 4.7 GHZ

GTX 570 @ 820/2000

8 gig OCZ 2133mhz

Creative titanium HD

FPS slowness is not related to settings, ie you can turn off everything and it doesn't matter. We just need to fix it (got some good idea today).

Have you guys defragged your hard drives since downloading the patch?

Sidenote: wow what an awesome rig. Very jealous.

It does when you are flying and arriving over a big city like Antwerp - all that info has to be loaded in from the hard drive, right? All the terrain on the map cannot be already RAM-resident from the time you start the game, right? I can hear the hard-drive working when I'm flying.

My fps has dropped by at least 10 points since the patch. Helping defend Dusseldorf just now and my fps was dropping down to 5.

All of the model data is already onboard at launch. The map/terrain data (where stuff is, not the stuff itself) is loaded as needed. Since the archive files are big they are likely written to clean parts of the disk and thus are probably contiguous. Modern disk formats don't fragment as much the old ones did; unless you are running at the edge of running out of disk space I doubt you can really tell any difference.

The most time of loading is not disk IO, but hooking everything up and generating colliders. Plus a fair amount of the data is likely sitting in a file cache already.

Note this new thread in the Hangar:

Ever since the latest patch I've noticed that buildings ei. factories and other buildings no longer draw from high altitude (20000ft). They were fine prior to patch. They do eventually draw, but barely when you are almost on top of you target and even at that, they blink in and out.

So, something has changed and I hope it's not intentional. CRS please look into this as it yet again takes away from the bombing game.

I wonder if this could be related to the low framerates and CTD bug?
