Buildings no longer draw at high alt

Ever since the latest patch I've noticed that buildings ei. factories and other buildings no longer draw from high altitude (20000ft). They were fine prior to patch. They do eventually draw, but barely when you are almost on top of you target and even at that, they blink in and out.

So, something has changed and I hope it's not intentional. CRS please look into this as it yet again takes away from the bombing game.

I wonder if this could be related to the low framerates and CTD bug?

I have also always had this problem. On FBRs the whole city would appear as flat as the paving stones EXCEPT the factories. Those would show up in full glory (as well as 8 in the box, mmmm).

20k ft is what, 7 km? be glad they don't render up there. Peace and quiet at last.

Also, I know it's nothing to do with my computer. It's brand new and I've had another guy confirm what I've seen.

19,685.03937 feet

Just in case you were wondering.

There's your problem. We measure in furlongs.

I floated a buzzard up and found that regular buildings quit drawing at 3km and factories were still drawing at 10km where the ground started disappearing from under them.

Interesting. Thanks for doing it Gophur. I still think there is something going on because even the regular buildings should show up at 18k (5.5km) and I also noticed when level bombing an ab from that height...I can't see the veh spawn or inf spawns anymore. Hmm...

I'm pretty sure you can't kill anything from that height either.

You have to be able to see the unit to kill it.

Or so it used to be before I had a break from the game

"should" and shouldn't" are entirely arbitrary, since things in code do what we tell them to (unless satan is visiting us and trying to drive us insane this week)

there is in fact only "is" and "is not" either of which might be able to be changed, maybe

sometimes "should" is "but can't because of xxx" and other times should is something we can adopt if it seems wise

sorry to be pedantic but it's all a lot easier to undertsand if "it should do this" is actually put or taken in it's proper context

Gophur pointed out what it is doing, whether we should or can change it is entirely a balancing act of why and what for, balanced against "what does it cost if we do?"

You are absolutely correct. I drop then dive down to get the registered kills from the bombs. It's a work around to the vis limit system that was implemented about 3-4 years ago.

Well...the real question is "What did it cost to change?" I'm not making this up. I'm giving you facts and I do appreciate it looked into, but it appears nobody from CRS knew beforehand what could and could not be seen from what alts....which is fine. The fact is that it has changed since last patch and it's something I know because it's what I enjoy doing in game.

I knew what tey were thay haven't changed in years. Buildings, like tanks ~3km. Factories are for strat bombing so they are really far ~20km.

What I'd be interested to find out is why they aren't drawing for you at these distances.
