DOC - one final question

DOC, one last question. Maj. Defiant and myself both went head to head. We both died in a collision. However, it showed him has having killed me as I had a Crit reported in my stats. BUT, he also showed having a crit from me but I have no kill.

Why has this now shown up on my kill list?

I hope you can understand written text. If so, here is the actual answer.

1) Check your and his stats. He has a kill on you and you have a kill on him. Similarly he has a death by you and you have a death by him.

Here are the missions:

http://csr.wwiionline.com/scripts/services/persona/sortie.jsp?sid=1861851&pid=239935

http://csr.wwiionline.com/scripts/services/persona/sortie.jsp?sid=1861880&pid=554045

In other words, your point of complaint is moot.

Now, so that you actually understand how scoring is done, I'll keep explaining. Some time ago a system was implemented that prevents

a person from getting a critical damage scored against them if they RTB. That means that if you shoot off someone's left ball, wing and kill his toy bear, you won't get the kill and he won't get the death if he manages to somehow fly his airplane back to the airport and RTB.

Now, if you think about it for a while, how does such system have to work? It has to wait until the other guy despawned in order to award a kill. If he doesn't despawn with a RTB, you get the kill, if he gets a RTB you don't. What happens when two guys collide? They blow up, each hits ESC and despawns, but none has kills in his AAR because the enemy is still in the process of despawning when the AAR is being generated and therefore neither client can show the kill because it did not happen yet.

Therefore, you will always see 1 less kill in the AAR in such situation and 1 more kill in CS&R.

Tigger is on the ball here.

Scoring is not real time. Players expect it to be but it cannot be when we need to manage your "existance" as a player on several hosts that hand you off from one to the other depending where in the system you are, and where YOUR OPPONENT is or was in the system at the same time.

Additionally, CS&R is probably never going to match the AAR in the UI although sometimes it does. One is your client recording what happened to YOU (instantly) the other is a report from a database that is written after it has updated itself (again, not instantly because the database is bigger than Jupiter) and this AFTER it has received it's update from the host which relies on not just your status in the host process (despawning forces you to be handed to a different host) but the status of your oppoenent who will in some cases change your score based on the results of his sortie which cannot be determined until after he hands off from ther Map Mission host just like what had to be applied in your case.

Then there is the occassional lost data which while not frequent at all, can never be 100% eliminated because the internet is not 100% perfect in data transfer.

lol, sry navy for using your bit of the forums for a start!

Thanks Tigger and DOC for finally putting to rest all my queries regarding crits. It has all fallen into place now. Taken me 9 years to get to the bottom of it though!

Did we even have crits back in 2002? Guess not. I can't even remember what used to happen when two guys collided back then!

Anyway, thankyou all for posting replies. I will probably see you naval guys again in another 9 years as this is REALLY the first time I have ever looked in the navy forums in almost a decade! lol.

S!
