Sound Engine 1st bug pass

Hi There

Well the new sound engine has made some changes.

The actual sound positioning has changed in the 232 which is another story

My grief is that the sound volume of 3rd party generated sounds can be changed and is being varied directly inverse to the accelerator axis on my X52.

Below test is made in an unmuted 232 looking at 4G but results are universal I can reproduce in othere vehicles

Test1.

On training server I spawn 2 vehicles using 2 accounts on 1 computer.

I disable sound using the Windows Sound mixer for 1 account.

I start engine on both accounts.

I put revs to max

I move the muted account so its parked in front of unmuted with engine on.

I turn all sound channels off except the center channel on the unmuted account.

Test1: Buttoned up driver position. Gas max then engine off

Gear neutral, engine on then gas min.

Engine off, leaving gas/accellerator on max.

Gear neutral, gas max then engine off, leaving gas/accellerator on max

Once the unmuted accounts revs is zero ( trick for 232 put it in 6th gear and stand on brake then it doesnt take 3 minutes.

I check my sound level in the sound mixer max level 5 % of max

Test2: Unbuttoned up driver position. Gas max then engine off

On the unmuted account where I have sound enabled and only center channel enabled.

Gear neutral, engine on then gas min.

Engine off, leaving gas/accellerator on min.

Once the unmuted accounts revs is zero ( trick for 232 put it in 6th gear and stand on brake then it doesnt take 3 minutes.

I check my sound level in the sound mixer max level 40 % of max

So conclusion I hear 8 times better unbuttoned comparred to buttoned driver

But max level is 40% on the amp meter in sound mixer

Test3: Buttoned up driver position. Gas min then engine off

On the unmuted account where I have sound enabled and only center channel enabled.

Gear neutral, engine on then gas min.

Engine off, leaving gas/accellerator on max.

Once the unmuted accounts revs is zero ( trick for 232 put it in 6th gear and stand on brake then it doesnt take 3 minutes.

I check my sound level in the sound mixer max level 10 % of max

Test4: Buttoned up driver position. Gas min then engine off

On the unmuted account where I have sound enabled and only center channel enabled.

Gear neutral, engine on then gas min.

Engine off, leaving gas/accellerator on min.

Once the unmuted accounts revs is zero ( trick for 232 put it in 6th gear and stand on brake then it doesnt take 3 minutes.

I check my sound level in the sound mixer max level 95 % of max

So conclusion I hear 8 times better unbuttoned comparred to buttoned driver

But max level is 80% on the amp meter in sound mixer

Test5: Any positon buttoned up or unbuttoned position.

On the unmuted account where I have sound enabled and only center channel enabled.

Gear neutral, engine on then gas variable input up and down.

I check my sound level in the sound mixer

Sound level is varying from 10% min to 95 % of max directly inverse to the amount of gas I give.

So final conclusion my sound levels vary dependent on the amount of the gas I give.

So I can basically not determine range in game anymore on the flip side I can hear smoke grenades land 1.6 K away.

Audio zoom here you go.

Am I the only one having this problem or is it universal ?

And yes i have tried it while driving with all channels on its the same my own generated sounds never change in volume levels. All 3rd party levels do change as tested above.

Diffinitions:

3rd person generated sounds is all sounds not generated by myself sucah as enemy firing and enemy engine sounds.

1st person sounds are all sounds generated by myself such as egninge sounds windsounds and wheel sounds.

Accelerator axis: Is the locate on my seconday joystick of the X52 ou can call it the gas pedal.

7.1 Megaladon aka the bionic EAR par excellence:

Is a headset with 7 sound channels: I always have bass disabled because its crap and I dont need a rumble stick in my ears

But what you can is control the following sound channels and built in speakers like this.

Center channel:Will provide a limited mono signal in both ears at a 90 degrees arc directly forward. if I turn my head left or right of the sound volume will decrease at the same level in both ears.

Right and Left Front: Will provide sound either sound in left or right ear dependent on if Im looking left or right of the sound source So covers and arc

going 180 degrees in front of me divided into 2 x 90 degrees mono in each ear.

Right or Left side: 2 arcs of 90 degrees at diretly to the sidesd to the sides

Right and Left rear: Will provide sound either sound in right or left ear dependent on if Im looking left or right of the sound source So covers and arc

going 180 degrees to the back of me divided into 2 x 90 degrees mono in each ear.

Bass channel. Gneneratees a non directional rumble when things are close to me:

So very precise diretional in the front and precise enough to hear if something creeps up to me from behind.

Each channel can be adjusted by hand on the volume box sitting on the USB wire.

HW Specs and game settings

Sound card + Headset all in one

7.1 Megaladon Razer

This is correct functionality.

Yup you got me.

But you never got to test5

But my point was with gas at zero engine off I hear 10 %

With engine on gas zero I hear 90% on the amp that properly translate

to 20 times better or something since the amp is in dB

Now lets come up with a fast reply for that one ;-))

Ahh I think I understood that one.

So...

Test 1

  • spawn a tank (which one?)

  • start engine > leave in neutral > zero throttle

  • go to commander

  • unbutton

  • notice sound level (of what?)

  • turn off engine

  • return to commander

  • notice sound level is (increased or decreased?)

So you're saying that with the engine off you can hear LESS sound volume from others like another tank nearby?

Yeas and No you got it right in the other thread.

But remeber I am using 7.1 which means that my own engine sound only comes out the rear speakers in a 232 or tiger. So I can tune that out by disabling the rear speakers.

Are you using stereo speakers hence my offer of shipping a pair of 7.2 headset to your collection.

I am using 2.1 here. Martini has a 5.1 set up I think.

Is disabling speakers how you achieve this bug? If so I can't really fix that I'm afraid.

It you read my thread you can see that either you can use the speaker setup in AC97.

You disconnect your external speakers. Or use the speaker setup or use the HW mixer which the megalodon have or if you are using 5.1 analog only have the center speaker connected.

This is for the test where you can hear that the sound levels vary with the amount of throttle input

But you can achive the same by standing still and wait to the revs drop so the only sound source is the target you are looking at.

For the 232 you still have the bug that it takes 3 minutes for the engine sound to drop but put it into gear and hold the brakes then it drops as fast as other vehicles.
