Default Sound changes after re-booting

Every time I shut down my PC, restart and log into the game, the sound driver is set to "Primary Sound Driver" and not my "Creative X-Fi". If I select the X-Fi and restart the game the driver stays selected. But when I shut down the PC the driver returns to the "Primary Sound Driver".

I checked with other players and they too had "Primary Sound Driver" showing but did not veryify if it reverts to the other after re-booting.

Can someone check this? There is a big difference between the two selections.

One more thing, regardless of how many times I open and change the WWIIOL settings program (from CRS BE in START programs) it always shows "Primary Sound Driver".

I'm not sure if this is normal to always show that driver as the one selected.

Issue i have with the preferences is, the music volume resets every time the music loop restarts. I have had to mute the music now...bug, but not a biggie here, but might hint to other bugs happening with sound etc...

What about if you make the change while in game?

What O.S you running?

What is the install path of WWIIOL?

Have you tried seeing if the settings file is changed (the modified date will change after you save changes and close it)

Could be a Permissions problem. I don't have this issue and was testing something similar to this. (Win7 64bit here, default install path )

I can't see how the reboot may effect this unless the file was saved on a RAM drive or something like that, each time you open the settings file it should stick and a reboot shouldn't impact that.

Good Luck.

Changes in game require a restart for them to take affect, which will happen. But a complete shut down of the PC will revert them to the Primary Sound.

I'm running Win7-64bit Home Premium - SP1 all updates

The install path is on the primary C Drive (only storage device) and it is an SSD , OCZ REVODrive. Any other program or driver seems to work OK with the exception of my X-Fi sound card occationally not retaining the speaker/headphone selection. I use headphones exclusively and sometimes the X-Fi detects them as speakers.

Can you duplicate this problem? Other than speedbird and a few others in game I have not done much testing.

Which version of the sound card are you running? Creative has a zillion...

Are you an administrator?

Is your wwiiol.xml (preferences) file being updated? (look for )

Does this happen is you use onboard sound?

If you uninstall and reinstall the game does this happen?

I had a similar problem, but it occured not only when rebooting but every time I restarted the game.

Here is what I did to fix it:

open the XML and replace the app.sound value with the one GOPHUR posted ({16E747D7-6A6A-44E3-A7A2-4A3482BCC32C}). Then start the game, select your sound device and close the game. The next time you start the game the correct sound device should be selected in the preferences.

I think the game does actually select the right device but doesn't display the change in the settings menu. So this probably won't change your sound a whole lot.

-The sound card is a Creative Labs X-Fi ExtremeMusic PCI

-Yes I am an administator.

-I did a clean install just prior to ver1.33 and then again last week. The only part I carried over was the internal settings in the CFML folder.

-I tried the onboard Realtek sound but it sounded like crap so I diabled it and put in an older X-Fi card.

Here are the sound strings I copied from the last few times I started the game and/or PC. You can see one part remains the same unique code (ex. 754F or 75E6) after each cold restart of the PC but the Preferences menu will always revert to "Default". When I change the sound selection from "default" to Creative X-Fi" and restart the game, as directed, the string does update with a new code and those settings remain in place after each consecutive game restart, but then again, the Preferences will revert to Deault after a full PC shut down even though the string has not changed.

It's as though the game finds a new sound card string each time I restart the PC and keeps the sound card each time I restart only the game.

Here's what I found.

from cold start..

(preferences show Default sound)

-Game restart only-

(preferences show Creative X-Fi)

cold restart

(preferences show Default sound)

-Game restart only-

(preferences show Creative X-Fi)

Well heck, I did another clean install by first un-installing the game, then deleting the Battleground Europe folder in My Documents and the CRS folder in Program Files (X86), then running CCleaner, rebooting and reinstalling the game.

drum roll..

Now it held the sound settings like it should after PC restarts.

This is not the first time I've taken these steps to try and resolve this issue with the exception of running CCleaner. I'll let you know if it stays this way.

OK, it looks like I'm good to go now. Something really strange happened after one of the 1.33 patches that needed more than a basic uninstall to remove all traces and settings.

I didn't mention it but TS was also affected. I ended up having to reinstall the TS program each time for it to work behind the game when it was running. When the TS window was on top it worked, when in the background it wouldn't work. I found some TS files buried deep in the Win7-64 system, removed them an did a clean install and all was good again. I have noticed this several times that if the game does an auto update when TS is running it tends to screw up the TS.

Anyhow I'm glad it works.

Sounds like a permissions issue somewhere. Maybe an older version of the preferences was in the install folder and on a reboot the game was looking for it there. Very odd.
