Depot bug exploit

Yesterday i was firing from a 2nd floor window of a depot when an ei popped up outside the window ...bang...wtf???

I went to a quiet town and discovered a bug (I think) which allows access to upper floors of depots and although once inside your weapons would not work(at least I assume they don't) you can with a bit of luck run thru the depot and onto the roof from there you can drop down on to the smaller sloping roof and fire into the depot.

This happened more than once yesterday at the place you are thinking of. One ei ended up on top of the roof of the spawn building killing people trying to get away from the spawn, before we realised where he was and killed him. He was .reported (optimistic I know lol) and I don't know if it was the same cheat over and over.

I do believe that there is no rule against being on the roof.

I'm pretty sure CRS explicitly stated that when they implemented the "oops-my-gun-won't-work-anymore-in-this-building-because-someone-over-there-captured-that-other-building", they made that silliness apply *only* to the two interior floors where spawning occurs. Inside the building on the ground floor, and on top of the building are free-fire zones.

Now as to how you gain access to the roof....

This sounds like the threads ages ago where people were complaining about AA Guns working themselves up onto the tops of FB Tents. DOC basically said "So what? That player is *not* in a position where he can kill and yet not be killed himself, such as occurs with clipping inside rubble. Furthermore, being in that exposed and elevated position arguably makes him *more* vulnerable to enemy fire."

So, I'm not sure there's anything here to ".report" about, although I agree the ability to drop down onto the sloping roof and fire inside is a little gamey considering this is supposed to be simulation of WWII combat. But then again, every unit in the game does crazy suicidal stuff every day that is not realistic, because this isn't real, it's a game.

I'm certain that the way that access is gained to the depot from outside ground level is not supposed to happen but once inside the depot by running on to the roof your weapons work again(nothing wrong with the weapons working outside the depot) its the gaining access in the first place that is wrong.

Here's something related. Players were "clipping" in order to gain access to an elevated position in the MG Tower:

... clipping issues like being inside rubble that MAKES YOU INVISIBLE TO THE PLAYERS YOU KILL are very obviously wrong' date=' [b']clipping through an MG tower wall to get inside is totally different. You aren't invisible, no one spawns there, they can kill you easily.

And here's the comment about getting an AA gun up on top of the FB tent, which was never intended by the game designers:

It's really clear why and if you want to argue with us, fine, but we make the rules and we make them with logic. Logic is something you need to try sometime, it works well.

Here goes.

Why is "some clipping" ok and some not ?

What is the logic behind what could be considered cheating ?

EASY !

If the thing you are doing is an exploit that disables the opposing player from having ANY ability to counter you (kill you back) while you can kill him, that is clearly unfair and cheating.

Like being inside a polygonal object that affords you perfect non collision killing ability (see and shoot) without the enemy being able to see or shoot you back.

CLEARLY A CHEATING EXPLOIT AND BANNABLE IF CAUGHT

Entering a designed "safe zone" for spawning so you can kill the enemy before they can retaliate, heck, before they can even move off the spawn.

CLEARLY INTENDED BY THE DESIGN OF THESE SPAWN PLACES (infantry only) THAT YOU NOT DO THIS, A CHEATING EXPLOIT AND BANNABLE IF CAUGHT

Putting a gun, that can be shot and killed by ANYBODY on the opposing side that wants to shoot it, in a position that is arguably MORE exposed and vulnerable than on the ground where you usually find them ... is not disabling your opponents ability to fight back or counter you by killing you in return, or even before you kill them.

Logically this is not an exploit that could be considered completely unfair or granting the user of it some invulnerable or almost invulnerable advantage. Thus it is considered "ok" even though, as KFS1 noted, it could be considered as employing a bug to pull it off.

Close this thread, I was never spawned at roof of any building.

Spawn position is safe. Nothing to solve.

You can access the roofs of many spawn points (jumping to), or, you can just remain in the building after the enemy captures it and run and hide on the roof or even inside somewhere. Then, you can shoot from the roof (or lower ledges if you jump to them).

While it is a little sneaky, and unnerving, the enemy is gaining access through no 'funny business' and so it is probably not a bug or 'exploit'.

And, as another person said, one is very vulnerable up there.

one depot (I think the same as SLR was talking about) had no access from other buildings. There was no reasonable reason for anyone to get onto the roof of the spawnable from ground level. Ill give the killer some respect that they didn't sit by a window or door and pop the guys coming out and at least stayed on the top of the roof.

You can just walk up the outside depot stairs unless they are "destroyed."

Then sit or stand on roof sniping people as they come out doors.

Those stairs are great to climb onto to then lanuch yourself onto the roof of the CP to kill ei through the windows which is what I usually use that for.

This is what I was talking about in spite of the gap between the bottom of the stairs and the ground which is supposed to prevent this ...it doesn't.

Doesn't really matter though, since you can't go inside and shoot someone while they are spawning now that they made weapons not work inside any enemy depot above the ground floor.

That is the *only* reason stairs didn't go all the way to the ground on those buildings in the first place.

Yes the weapons don't work inside but the guy that shot me must have run thru the building out onto the roof and then dropped onto the small roof above the garage from where he shot me thru one of the windows.

Actually I thought his sudden appearance outside the window was rather amusing but not achieved by strictly fair means due to the inoperative prevention mechanism of the fire escape.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Bofors on top of veh spawns being the prime example, it's dumb that the game allows it, but even dumber that people do it.
