There are lots of reasons this can happen, off the top of my head:

1) You can only RTB to your own AB, not an enemy AB in enemy town that you just captured (even though AB is yours now)

2) Lost FB

3) Flag moved

4) your originating spawn point is out of supply atm (say CP)

5) Town was captured (i.e. owned by your side now)

6) Only 1 unit left in supply at spawn point of your type and your side has SD

This is very closely related to the "Enter World" bug that we get so many times.

I think if your vehicle is damaged it also doesn't become readily available.

RTB does not imply that you have your vehicle reserved for the next spawn, only that it might.

An interesting test of RTB is to post MSP from CP and be a sapper. Then, RTB but spawn right back in. You are a sapper again, but, RTB and spawn right back in again and you are a ... surprise..... RIFLE!

When you go to ready room you will see there are no sappers available.

So, it seems RTB doesn't mean return and ready to spawn again. It means you returned to base, but you will not be available to spawn in again for some time.

After waiting, the 2 sappers did come back to the list and I finished my FB bust.

Still, strange behavior for RTB from my perspective and not working how I though it worked.
