DD front main gun issue

Last night I made several attempts to spawn and fight with a dd. Every time my main guns went straight up and faced backwards. I could not fix it by adjusting range or anything else. My joystick worked just fine with every other vehicle I used last night. I would like to know how to get it fixed?

Generaly this happens from setting range to 10 (lowest setting).

Always fixes for me by going to a aagun station and setting range to 1000 (default for the 20mm stations).

Sounds like a stuck key to me....

I will check the range issue. I adjusted it all the way down 10 to. from 2700. I got it pointed where I wanted it in the gunsite view. I switched to position 2 and they were right back where I started. I was starting to thing the gunner hated the bridge crew.

If you set the mains to 10 they will be pointed straight up when you go to a topside position. Sometimes they will have the zoomed view flipped when you go back to them too if set to 10.

Honestly, I think the min settable range should be upped to 100m or 200m for the DD guns. May fix this from happening.

I agree. Though I think it should be more like 500m or 1000m. How close would doctrine say you could shoot a giant gun I wonder?

Its a range setting bug. All your guns are on different scales but are changed at the same time when you change range anywhere. So if you set your AA guns to min the guns point up.

Zeke has the fix, go to AA guns and fiddle with their range setting, then the guns should be back to normal.

Heh. "Giant guns"? 8^)

Destroyers fought at whatever range was necessary. The modeled destroyer class could depress its main battery to -10 degrees, so it could hit boat targets inside of a hundred meters.

In real world fog/rain battles, destroyers might engage ship targets inside of 500 meters.

In night MTB raids against convoys, the convoy's escorts...usually not destroyers, but other gun armed vessels...commonly didn't spot the raiders until closer than 500 meters.

Just cut off the settable range at 100 meters, and it'll be fine.

we need to set in code a "cannot set below" threshold for these guns, that works for the AA guns which are at present tied to the same routine and cannot be made seperate (yet) ... and I suspect that 100m would be perfectly adequate for this task
