Has infantry rendering range been increased?

Used to be that it was right around 1000m, maybe a bit less, which meant that it didn't matter whether you hit exactly where the EI was with any weapon, no kill, no nothing if the distance was greater than this. Which means no high level bombing kills on EI (which sucks, btw).

But I just had a Heinkel mission at Leuven in which my bomb release was at 2580 AGL and got kill credit on SMG. How did that happen after years of never getting any EI kills on level bombing runs above 1k?

The "bug" being reported is that effective kill ranges for different targets is not officially published AFAIK which creates needless mystery for all concerned. GOPHUR, can you please address this?

Up until now, I thought that the current rendering (kill) ranges were:

Aircraft 4k

Ships 6k

Infantry 1k

Guns/Tanks/Trucks 2.5k

AI and Factories 6k

So? Thanks.

You bombed the building he was in. The vis range for inf is just under 700m.

I have been killed as a squishy by 111s flying well into grey range. I think there are ways to increase the bomb effectiveness like diving down back over town or something like that.

I don't think that the squishy was in a building, the drop was a bit south of town because my JS calibration wheel had somehow slid left a bit and I was surprised I hit anything. But I did kill an AI of some kind as well, so mebbe the poor bastard was hiding in a gun pit when it changed state? At any rate, there wasn't any diving down or circling around involved (the so-called cone), so I don't think that I did anything to enhance targeting.

Anyway, where are you guys getting the 700m range for infantry from? I'm not saying you are wrong, my whole point was RATs do not publish stuff like that AFAIK and I fail to see why?

I wonder whatever happened to the addition of bombs as server tracked objects which would not depend on rendering? That would directly benefit level bombers as Heinkels were generally used at 3k+ and have optimal flight characteristics at 4k and the allied bombers should be able to kill from any arbitrary height as well.

read the patch readme?

Please point me at it, Hinfoos. I search wiki for "700" and don't get anything back that means anything useful. If it isn't in the wiki, then it is effectively unpublished.

But I do know that paras cull and can be killed at 2000m now. Sounds like too much balancing is going on.

1) That could well be, I've never tested it. Beta server is offline ATM.

2) ~700 is correct. Likely in the read me. This stuff can go in the wiki if needed but I don't have write permissions there so I'll ask BLOO.

3) Too few host coders. I has a sad. Seriously.

This is only answer, but you can die up to 1000m like years ago. Tested on 1.33

Question is: why we have recon car with 700m limitation on EI. Big FAIL.

232 is target for EA currently (primary role is lost), great pach for FAF RAF, isn't int.

RPG - 1 point

yes it sucks with 700m only....

cant scout far range on incoming eis.. so if you sit outside town you cant see eis running out of town towards your direction.. then it gets harder because he only have to run inside the bushes to reach you and then its most of the time to late to spot him and move.

I agree. 1200-1500m is a best case scenario for infantry vis. I do quite a bit of shooting at 1000yd and I can see people moving around with my naked eye at that range, if I know what and where I'm looking for. With low power optics (4-5x zoom) it's that much easier.
