PZII gun jam from ATR firing from side

Is there some good reason why an ATR can jam the gun on the PZ2? Had the same guy take out the gun 4 times today. The odd thing was the person was firing from the flank. I was expecting a crew hit. I would think that even if the Boys ATR had super bullets you would still need a frontal shot to kill the gun.

The more perpendicular to the barrel he is the better penetration. Also, barrel steel isn't the same as armor plate. It's considerably softer. Not out of the question that a Boyes AP round would penetrate, if not at least damage a 20mm barrel beyond use.

I think it's reasonable that an ATR round would damage a 20mm barrel, but then I thought all barrels were treated the same in game and as such need a higher damage threshold. On the other hand, all other 20mm guns are damageable by ATRs, like those on DDs, so maybe they share a common link there. I've had both my 20mm and MG taken out on my PzII by ATRs on numerous occasions. It's quite surprising, too. Using it in an infantry suppression role you don't really care for the 20mm, but when your MG won't fire that's a big problem!

My testing indicted a bug. If i can recall its the only tank I couldnt head-shot (from the side maybe cant remember) BUT the shot gave a gunjam instead so no real problem here TBH cos if its fixed you will have a gunner with no head instead. BTW boys doesnt jam any other guns as far as i could see.

Test 1

  • p1 spawn a pz2
  • p2 spawn a boys atr
  • p1 shoots p2 gun barrel
  • p1 puts 10 rounds into each barrel
  • p2 can still fire 20mm main gun
  • p2 received no incoming damage from p1

Expected functionality. Only weapons above 20mm can damage gun barrels.

What am I missing?

I'm guessing he hit the gun breach rather than the barrel.

DDs guns can be disabled by hitting the breach with a fmb 3#er but not by hitting the barrel.

(fmb 20mm used to break DDs gun breach too but have not checked lately).

Test 1
  • p1 spawn a pz2

  • p2 spawn a boys atr

  • p1 shoots p2 gun barrel

  • p1 puts 10 rounds into each barrel

  • p2 can still fire 20mm main gun

Im pretty sure you mean p1 spawns atr and p2 spawn pz2? What do you mean by "what am i missing"?

OK i just tested t again. Below is the damage model i found. Red area is the gun with disables with ANY boys hit from the side. Green is gunner, I couldnt get headshot from the right side as the gun mechanism was blocking it. Its hard to test because it pops its top 1 in every 3 shots from the gunner forward.

how about axis ATR can "degun" allied tanks too ???

its a joke how easy nearly all axis tanks can be degunned. but if you try to degun an allied tank ... it only works on a few

I dont recall being able to degun allied tanks. Will check that. The boys rounds much fatter also, it kills crew with 1 shot always so must carry quite a bit more energy.
