US sniper

I like the weapon and all, just one thing that bugs me, as it does with the british sniper, though the brit one isn't terribly problematic.

The scope crosshair. have been using the sniper a bit and I keep realising when i'm trying to pin point hit someone out past 400m, they completely vanish behind the black thick line of the crosshair.

Couldn't it be tappered in a little? Just enough so we can see the head we are trying to shoot beyond 400m.

Another thing though, just a question, why don't any of the snipers have a sidearm pistol of some kind? It's a little irritating to get cornered in a building with only the ability to use a scope that zooms too far for close range targets, and is too difficult to try and shoot accurately when not looking through the scope.

The sniper is just my most loved infantry unit in the game, but i'll be quiet now :X

i feel ya man about the crosshairs being a little to "thick".

Im guessing the reason they dont have a pistol is because snipers are made to be more distant from battles where you shoot far away. So the benefiting of having a sniper is you can zoom further in for kills, but if you get yourself caught up in close combat, your not going to do so good. But thats all me just thinking that, could be wrong. S!

If you want to be able to kill at a distance, and up close, use a iron sights.

If you want the scope, be prepared to die by the scope.

I would still prefer to have a pistol as a side arm, the LMG has one, so does a few other classes, like the SMG, which shouldn't even need it.

And often I am snipering from a long distance, but in town defence where it's good to be in a tall building sometimes, it would just be better to have a sidearm for backup. Modern snipers always have a pistol, and I know I would want a backup weapon...Just would make more sense to me to have a pistol.

springfield scope is a disaster' date=' i dont know who modeled it but really if you couldnt see the damn problem within 1min your pretty retarded.[/quote']

Tonight on the live server I went head to head with several players who where using the sniper rifle. I kept hearing the PING PING of near misses OVER AND OVER. Most of the time at only a range of 300-400 meters.

"No one is that bad" I thought to myself and while testing out the new weapons offline decided to spawn a US Sniper out of curiosity. The reasons for the near misses became instantly clear.

If not fixed I feel this particular weapon will be dismissed as useless junk by the player base. All the other weapons I liked.

That battle by the river - can remember the name but both sides had spawnables at about 350m. Grabbed a sniper over and over to see if you could adjust the crosshairs in a way to shoot with out covering the target. Not only could I find a happy medium I could not see where my rounds where hitting 50% of the time to adjust fire. I had 1 kill IIRC after about 10 12 different sorties with it. I was killing more with the M1 and iron sites without really seeing anyone in the windows.

It really is a piss poor site.

Of course you would prefer having the pistol, because it would make the unit better. The point is that the Sniper is already the premier long distance unit in the game, to the point that its limited supplies are often exhausted before the first CP is captured in an attack. Removing its primary disadvantage is neither necessary nor wise. There is also little support for the idea historically - squad marksmen did not generally carry sidearms.

If you're worried about the weakness of the sniper at short range, use iron sights. Otherwise take your long range advantage and run with it.

In regards to the US scope, I haven't used it yet, but it sure does sounds awful.

Having tested the British and American sniper rifles offline, a general query, why is the scope taken down after the shot? In other games try to stay in scoped view to see where the shot lands, and adjust my aim from there. Is it something that's possible to arrange? And secondly, does anyone but me care?

Ignore, I found out how to keep the scope up, hold down the fire button

jackybunne, I agree with ya! Gettin a 400 meter shot is really difficult with all the foliage that surrounds tgts. But most importantly, defenses are set out from town, many times the sniper will be targeted after his first, second round.

You try to displace, but get killed running away, or they strafe towards you, "dolphin diving" and laughing their fannies off cause they know you can't get a reasonable shot off at them.

When they get close, your toast. Having a sidearm would give you a fighting chance. But as you can see, there are those that do not want you to have a reasonable chance at survival.

Going in town is foolish, so you find a hide, outside of town...hoping that some tank, armored car which can see you thru bushes at range don't find you before you get a shot.

But hey, that's the life of a true sniper in this game. Most who spawn sniper rush into town, at defended fbs, and take shots at enemy armor. LOL!

Asking for a sidearm just makes you a target in the forums. Hopefully, one day, we'll get one. Maybe take one away from the LMG, SMG, ATR, they don't need em....heheheheeh.

Don't worry, pal, every now and again, ya get the perfect WTF kill and it makes it all worth while! ;)

Oh yeah, crosshairs and audio on Springfield need adjusting.

US sniper crosshairs too thick CRS, please fix. They completely obscure what you're shooting at.

This is more an argument to removing SMG/LMG pistols than it is for adding Sniper pistols. Just saying.

Have to agree the cross hairs are awful. Maybe rather than cross hair an arrow or just make the lines really really thin.

Yep, the crosshairs need to be modeled for gameplay, even if that makes them thinner than they really were.

Ya know, at first Romsburg, you rubbed me the wrong way and I wasn't a fan. But over the past 12 months, you have really grown on me. You're precise, well spoken and although you are sometimes a little harsh, you are most often correct and in proper context with your responses.

If you're going to argue with Romz, do your homework before you post. He gets it, and you can't teach common sense, you have to be born with it.

I do beleive the crosshairs were actually thinner, they started thick on the outter edge of the scope and then tappered in to a fine point in the center.

:D:DDefinitely be watching for the scope x-hairs to thin when they can be, but nice to know about hold the firing button, too. Never tried the original x-hair scopes-mostly the issued stuff is better, and the sporting stuff commercially available is made for longer ranges, but the combat stuff i've read about was only 2 or 4 power at most anyway.

We'll deal with it for as long as we have to.
