1.34.3 FPS performance dropped by about 60%

Massive drop in performance in latest patch, game has now become unplayable for me...Hope this is just a bug...?

Reduced settings, no real change, getting less than 20fps in towns, not even a heavy battle, only getting 30fps at firebases, fps could peak at 100 averaging about 60-70 at fbs before....

Me too, i got quad core 3.6 ghz, 4gig ram and gtx 570 and got 15-25-fps in battle , that not normal, i can play bf3 in high with 40-50 fps in 64 players battle, this game is not well optimized.

That's strange, yesterday I logged in to Bastogne and I was getting consistently 30-32 FPS. I have everything on max setting except for redder filter, grass thing, and water reflections. I have AA at 8 and AF at 16, plus the other options in Nvidia to highest. I also have vsync on to avoid the tearing. I didn't really play much, but it seemed smoother for me. Before I was in the teens in towns. I'll have to try it again. Nvidia has a new beta driver out that I'm using because BF3 was all jacked with the other driver. It's now fixed.

Those of you with low fps and high end rigs, what you have AA set at in your vid settings?

I'm honestly not seeing any noticable difference, had 2 accounts running on this rig at bastone/wiltz fb last night with 30 to 40 fps on each. 1 as bofors, other as inf.

I do have the inf LOD set low as well as the bodys number and timeout.

And I do also turn off the postrender filter, gives me a splitting headache with it on.

I only run 4x AA as that's plenty high enough to smooth the jaggys out.

If you got bad fps, load the game offline.

Type /benchremagen and hit enter then hit the spawnin button.

After a minute record fps here.

Type /benchinfantry and hit enter.

After a minute record fps here.

That will give a benchmark compairson point to start figgureing out whats up.

My bench remagen/infantry/vehicles/antwerp are coming in at 60/40/26/58 is coming in right where it did last dozen versions.

Now that doesn't cover every possibility but it covers a lot. You'll have to give me more to go on. Some place to look. Start with sys specs maybe there is something in common.

Sys specs:

i5-2500@3.3GHz, Board Asus P8H61M, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Geforce N250GTS, Realtek onboard sound, Windows 7 64bit Home Edition, nVidia driver version 285.62

FPS were fine with 1.34 open beta.

Any place where a battle take place, FPS plummets, getting bad lag, and serious clipping issues (could be low frame rate related). Using low settings now, still no change, not even using AA (ugly!)...

The clipping issue is really bad though, i see players running into a cp through the wall, instead of the door, and it seems to get worse the longer i play, no where near ready for welcoming back thousands of players...

Probably a function of massively more infantry of a higher resolution. Reduce vis limit (was increased dramatically for 1.34) and reduce inf LOD.

Gophur, this is the first time I've seen anyone say vis limit was increased for 1.34. This word needs to get out to the playerbase so they understand what may be causing lag. Also, if the vis limit was raised, can you say by how much? Reason I ask is simple. If 100% in 1.33 is 150% in 1.34, players should not mind reducing their limit and not feel like they're missing something they were getting before.

Im on low vis and lowest LOD, strangely my FPS havent been to bad recently, still getting terrible lag and clipping issues though...

You benchmark lack the new infantry units please add them to benchmark I'm pretty sure there will be different results.

pretty sure the benchmarks use whatever infantry model is used in the live version of the same number.

As an aside, saying "my FPS sux" or similar doesn't really give much to go on in determining/diagnosing an issue. They have included several benchmarking scripts in the client that can be run in offline mode (gophur put them in his post). To truly get an idea of how the game code changes affect your FPS from one release to the next, run the same benchmarks with the same game and system settings in each version and compare. If the numbers are close, then any performance change you are seeing in the online version is likely caused by the human factor (ie, increased vis limits that gophur mentioned) rather than an inherent flaw in the code itself.

the benchmarks are:

/benchremagen

/benchinfantry

/benchvehicles

/benchantwerp

Oh, and if you run one more than about 5 times the game will crash out...seem that overloads something on the OS end....

If you do notice a drastic difference in the benchmarks, return here and post the scores and corresponding version numbers along with your system specs (OS, RAM, GPU, CPU, Audio card, and corresponding driver versions, along with any other programs running concurrently such as Teamspeak)

And my last in this series:

1.33 benchmarks from June 13, 2011 (not sure which .release this was, but iirc it was 1.33.3 or 1.33.4)

/benchremagen: 58FPS

/benchinfantry: 21FPS

And tonight's benchmarks for 1.34.3

/benchremagen: 51FPS

/benchinfantry: 12FPS

My admittedly low-end specs:

Dell Precision M6300: BIOS Rev A13

Intel T9300 2.49ghz Core 2 Duo

8GB DDR2 PC5400

nVidia Quadro FX3600M 512MB: Driver 8.17.12.8562

C-Audio CMI8738: Driver 7.12.8.1740

NOTE: My infantry bench is quite a bit lower (almost 50%) but my in-game experience so far shows my FPS to be relatively the same as it has been since May of this year (upgraded to Win7 Ultimate). However, I do have a lot more stuttering now than I did previously and it does not seem to be associated with my GPU (as it was when the trees were first changed a few versions back)

Yeah the bench doesn't care what you have for settings so you're probably seeing more inf in the bench than you otherwise would Hick.

Good follow up. Thank you.

That's kinda what I was thinking.....appreciate the confirmation.

I know. It wasn't done in the way I would have preferred and I'm only just now getting wind of the changes in full.

I'd like to throw my vote in for going back to what it was previously as the penalty for the increased limits just isn't worth it IMO. And please kick the guy responsible for this about not telling the rest of the team about this change.

I'm getting really bad fps especially near trees but the game has alot of low fps spikes even at min settings.

Please patch 1.33 with the bug fixes & small features and leave the big core changes of 1.34 baking on the oven its not ready and is nearly impossible for me and a bunch of other players to play, lag is also 3x times worst for me I see often more than 3 secs kills after shooting also if I'm guarding AB and other buildings if an ei rushs he kills me before I even see him on the game. ( 1.33 was better)
