CTD while flying

Getting them elsewhere too... but since latest patch am guaranteed of a CTD between 6 and 10 minutes into the mission.

Also occasionally when changing brigade and attempting to spawn.

Posting in support; sadly I am still experiencing this from time to time, but more importantly, I'd say ~50% of the pple I've been flying with are CTD'ing every other mission. It's a big problem - thank you for working on it - we've seen improvements - but it's still a very big issue.

I need to know more about this CTD. I'm not seeing reports of this.

How do I replicate?

If you fly on auto pilot for a half hour out into the blue will it happen or do you need to be in a high traffic area?

I'm going to go onto the live server to see if I can replicate.

As I said before I don't get it nearly as much as other players, so it's hard for me to tell you when it happens - but for the people I fly with it usually happens

- After a death

- entering combat

- bouncing an EA

- generally just flying around

I'll post a link to this thread in the hangar so you can get more specific feedback from people. I know many squaddies are experiencing this, and I am 99% sure they are not the only ones. But I'll encourage them to speak for themselves so you can get much better information.

CTDs are happening to me and my wingman a lot and have been for a month or so now.

Typically the CTD will occur during spawning in after you've flown a mission or 2. Usually about the 3rd time you spawn in you'll get booted.

What I have noticed is that IF I somehow manage to spawn in 3 or 4 times without getting booted....eventually I will CTD while flying. It seems to be related to:

a) how long you've been in game and

how many respawns you've had.

If any more info is needed I would be happy to provide it. It's totally able to be recreated on a nightly basis on my computer.

I am getting this now as well reguraly. Probably 1 out of 5 missions. Usually 10 -15 minutes into the mission I get a quick hard crash to my desktop.

never while loading or on map screen. Always during flight.

as far as we know, a CTD while flying is no different (in cause) from a CTD while playing a ground unit

we are currently tracking and resolving CTD issues on a daily basis, if you have a CTD you can replicate easily and repeatably, isolating the direct cause by actions on your part, we will happily add that to our debug process

just tell us exactly how to repeat your experience, if we already know it, no harm done, if we don't, it adds to our ability to track down another one

simply reporting you "get a CTD" isn't going to make a lot of differance to the process at all, since every CTD is logged here at CRS as an event that occured and we examine those logs every day ... so we know how many are happening every day

what we cannot log is exactly how the circumstances you were in happened when you CTD, we can only log that you suffered the CTD as a consequence of those unknown circumstances

Suspect my CTD may be driver related. Friend that was playing at the same time updated his drivers and then managed to not crash next mission.

Will have to change my drivers and see.

unfortunately, drivers are a big cause of many problems and due to the nature of how and when driver vendors update these, not to mention how OS vendors accomodate (or not) that driver evolution process (and we have to use OS's that the OS vendors create) ... we almost never have any control over this aspect of the situation

we even have to jump through hoops at times to fix issues it causes us, just like you do

we understand that the blame ultimately comes back to us, but with drivers, most of the time it isn't us and we can't do much when this happens but adjust ourselves to the issues they create, which still hoses you because we cannot adjust instantly

Bail out at low lvl and screen will freeze and ctd right as you hit ground. Change from inf brigade to air and you will ctd. These are not hard things to replicate. Then you have to wait 50 sec for the fukn side lock timer and like last night add another 80sec for spawn delay. I don't know why i bother sometimes.

the problem comes when 1 person has to try and figure out everything 10,000 people can do and do it in 15 minutes

asking YOU for your replication methods means we get 5 times as much debugging done in half the time

additionally, there are other hellish issues like all the methods you just listed NOT producing a single CTD for me today when I did exactly those things you mentioned in your post

I understand you are frustrated but you probably shouldn't beleive we are anything but working our asses off to try and remove those frustrations for you, and at the same time you would be advised to not believe that if something were truly as you imagine it (easy simple and a 5 minute job) then yeah, we would have no issue overcoming THAT. It just isn't like you imagine it is here, is all I can tell you, and it's 100 times more frustrating being the creators of your frustration than what you are feeling.

I know you probably don't believe that either, but hey, all I can do is tell you I can't make you believe anything.

I get this CTD while flying as well as in tanks or as infantry. I'm on WinXP pro still and using most recent drivers for my ATI Radeon HD 5770 but this was happening before I updated the driver and rolling it back didn't help. I'm trying to get by on my Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz, with 8 GB memory and don't want to buy a new system until the economy improves more–which I'm sure lots of people are doing also.

The game was very playable for me before the last patch, now it isn't.

Why not remove the side lock then till all this is fixed? Making everyone that ctd's wait an extra 50sec worth of frustration isn't good.

CTD on respawn. Died. Went to Respawn - CTD'd. It produced no error log though- which I found odd.

Good point on the drivers. I am not on the latest catalyst drivers. Running 11.9.

I'll update to 11.12 tonight and see how that goes tomorrow.

Negatory on the drivers.

First mission after installing the new catalyst drivers (11.12) and flew around for a really long time....like maybe an hour or more. Killed 2 EA and was RTBing and hit Y to bring up my chat and CTD.

I turn the chat on and off quite a bit ...not sure that had anything to do with it but as soon as I hit Y to turn it on is when I crashed.

Where is this crash log at? Any other info you need just let me know.

Any updates on this? It is still happening. Other odd stuff too like people not showing on map, and in the squad tab even though they're logged in.

Is this some server/ host problem? It seems so.

Is there any further info we can provide?

OK I think we found this. Memory leak in terrain states. Probably exascerbated by flying. Will put into beta soon. I'll ask you to test this then.
