I keep getting killed :)

For the first time in almost 8 years I despawned out of pure frustration today. Time after time I fired a couple of seconds subMG into the ei and then he fired and killed me and walked away - I know that lag can be a problem and there will always be a delay for both players that cannot be resolved sensibly and fairly. The game was playing smoothly at the time as it usually does for me. I was also getting shot through the wall/floor occasionally, this seems normal atm.

Eventually after several 'kills' in a row (me ded!) I came to the conclusion that lag due to server location and my location must be the problem. It's not the most easy game to play when you can't kill the opponent:)

Any suggestions welcome ('take shooting lessons' not being one of them lol).

OK, so how much effect does lag have?

Say the server is in California.

A guy playing axis in California meets a guy playing allied in London. Who sees the other first and by how long a time (roughly, I know it all varies and depends on all sorts of things). Does the guy living next door to the server see the guys living 1000s of miles away first - does the guy with fibre optic cables see first if they are the same distance apart etc. Is my only hope of beating someone living close to the server to keep running sideways, shooting when necessary lol?

It's interesting and I would appreciate some informed comment.

Or is the problem that I am running Firefox or IE or Fraps or TS and TS Overlay at the same time as the game? I will experiment with no extra programmes.

If a guy has a long ping then you see him where he was and he sees you where you were. He sees himself where he is as do you.

A -----------> B

I was at a but I have moved to B.

I see myself at B.

You see me at A.

The length of the line is dependent on the sum of our network lag.

This why we kick people who have poor network connections.

1.33 was really good for me.

On 1.34 the lag is really really bad, I thought one of the objectives was to reduce lag instead it increased dramatically.

In my whole 5 years I haven't seen lag kills like 1.34 I have been shot saw being shot at was able to turn and kill the EI.. And so much more...

The network requirements for 1.34 did increase fairly significantly. Many marginal connections will no longer work as well.

Not sure that's your issue but that is one possibility.
