Lights possible on BGE?

There are post lights on battleground europe but they have no lights, I remember when BGE launched on europe that the nights were really dark , this was cool but hurt too much the gameplay by not having lights on cities, vehicles, flares and not every infantry had binoculars..

My question is does the engine allow for this lights when its dark?

I would love to see cities and fbs having parts were there was lights especially on AB's, CP's and maybe some roads, this would focus battles in these spots. Tracers and gun flashes would play a more important role and create a bigger sense of immersion, stealth gameplay would also increase alot.

The problems have always been in putting them on the terrain. There is some new RA based shader technology that we can lok at though and see if it is appropriate.

"My question is does the engine allow for this lights when its dark?"

Dinant bridge lightpoles on the bridge ends have been lit for a good while now.

So yes the engine will do it.

Now flares, searchlights etc would be great.

But lights in towns, in WWII??????? Town SHOULD be dark at night!

Do you want the air-raid warned yelling at you to "put that light out"???

This will probably get me pelted with stones...

If we could get lights, flares, etc. I would be happy to see a return to a real darker night again (one that cannot be gamma adjusted).

Let night be the time for spec-ops and infiltration and use urban lighting, vehicle lights, flares, and the moon for navigation. Yes this would minimize some types of fights but promote others. Maybe even shorten the night a little more so as not to drop the day gamers from the party.

Of course there is the argument that the graphics are already crappy and making it dark will make it impossible to do anything...

That's what I have exactly in mind :) , Lets not forget about vehicle lights like trucks and tanks.

It would be awesome heading towards an objective like a fb(with lights) the defenders would have difficult seeing us but could we could seen them, suddenly some1 misfires and every1 begins just shooting everywhere, tracers flying, gun flashes popping up, people trying to suppress and trying to get a lucky shot, then flares begun flying...

That would be quite cinematic and unique :)

Btw we could have different amounts of darkness randomly some could have a real bright and full moon gamma would be reduce, others would be dark with heavy clouds rain and some lighting that would light the terrain for a few seconds...

We wouldn't be hurting any1, everyone would get a bit of what they enjoy.

If the work is going to be put into this area, flares are where it should go.

Cities/towns always were blacked out when anywhere near combat...not just because the defenders ordered it at the point of a gun, but because the local electrical company and fire protection service very very much didn't want even more equipment additionally damaged by short circuits, civilians electrocuted and more buildings set alight.

Flares have a lot of gameplay potential.

If they made it dark, great idea (assuming some light fog or something was used to nerf the gamma-cheat). Without darkness it's a little bit pointless (though cool, either way)

Imagine if buildings (internal) went dark as the light faded outside ... I'd love this, more than just about any other feature. Then, without having lightswitches (which is never going to happen), you could use Mr Willy's flares when going in to clear them out.

Note to pilots:Don't worry, I can't see night time ever returning (sadly)

There is no such thing as night which can't be gamma adjusted. Sorry, that's just wishful thinking.

Why are flares good? Is it because l33tb0b can use it to grief his sides FRU constantly?

True and true.

Alot of times folks have realy good ideas. Sadly the human factor has to be weighed into any consideration.

Yeah, because smoke's not visible at all ... ;)

I'd take night with gamma cheaters over no night ... Just one more tool in a player's box ... It's like saying, "Sides should be locked at campaign start, that will stop the spies!". But the sides are not locked ... Coding (or not coding) because we can all find a way around it, isn't really sensible, we can find a way around most things ... All being important ...
