This weapon is ready for a shake down. There are a few pending bugs:

  • boresight is off
  • can fire standing, should be prone, kneel only
  • missing x-x-x line on shell
  • can you see the round in flight?
  • should not have smoke trail
  • the sight is up in third person, should be down

What I need is a basic function review. IE does it kills tanks.

S! Gophur I tested the PIAT in Offline testing and I realised that when I fired the PIAT it sounded like the brit rifle. Maybe an art error.

Not that I've ever heard one but...

The PIAT uses a cartridge in the tail of the charge that blows the round off the spigot.

So, it WON'T sound like a rocket.

Maybe a bit like a mortar? Minus the resonance from the barrel...

A meaty KAchunk would be about right.

Also some interesting stuff here on both the direct fire and indirect fire sights.

Did some basic tests.

It penetrates and kills armour OK... Tiger side at decent angles is about the best you can hope for although I managed a frontal penetration/spall of the Tiger and killed the driver by mistake... dunno how. Was after a LOT of hits though.

fuse angle about 30 - 40deg?

Can't track or degun a tiger... although I only used half a dozen rounds.

I did notice that you can't hurt opels frontally unless you hit a wheel. Even putting one in the drivers face only causes like 5% damage due to 'arm hit'. Couldn't even make the radiator smoke.

Only gripes are the lack of a recoil animation [should be similar to the ATR].

Also, regarding ALL the RPATS... there really should be no spall generated from non-penetrating hits. Shaped charges with a semi decent standoff realistically wouldn't generate any.

-Sometimes when you shoot and reload if you keep clicking to shoot, the PIAT round will disappear like it was fire but it's invisible instead and eventually there will be an invisible round fired.

- The message when you try to fire the PIAT while standing is too generic, should be more like this "PIAT can't fire while standing"

- The letters telling you can't fire the PIAT can spam too easily and easily fill the screen, they should be more transparent, don't be able to spam so easily and ideally there should be a flashing icon on left bottom of the page with a soldier standing with a red X would more easily and clean making the player understand faster.

- The PIAT feels great shooting sound seems fine but I do not know what it really sounded like.

- As kamel mention its impossible to kill an opel frontally with the PIAT even if it hits the head of driver but the pistol seems also unable to kill him.

That's because the front of an Opel is basically spaced armor. Totally makes HEAT ineffective.

What about hitting the head of the driver with both the PIAT and the pistol and not being able to kill it frontally?

I was able to get kill credit when hitting the sides but not frontally.

Here's what happens when you hit an opel in the front with a PIAT:

- PIAT hits the grill @ 77m/s with KE of about 4k

- the grill takes 4kj damage

- the grill stops the round and the fuse detonates

- shaped charge goes off on the grill

- one of the jets penetrates the grill and applies damage to the radiator ~11kj

- this alone is enough to take the radiator to it's max damage level

- repeat for the rest of the jets

- then the concussion goes off and it deals a spec of damage to every part of the front of the vehicle

The jets stop on the radiator, that's how HEAT works, it does not penetrate. That's why they put sandbags on the tanks etc.

Now what is odd to me is why the truck can then start up and drive off. Looking at that now.

Ok but did you try to hit the head of the opel driver from the front with the PIAT Gophur?

steps:

1-Spawn PIAT

2-Spawn Opel

3-Place yourself in front of the opel aim at the head of the driver

4-No kill credit

Yeah it's brutal.

  • spawned a PIAT
  • went prone on hood of opel
  • shot driver in the face
  • apply 4kj to the windshield
  • round stops
  • fuze detonates
  • shaped charge explode
  • the jets start penetrating the windshield
  • they drop about 11kj each on the windshield

Now there seems to be something odd here. I would expect that instead of penetrating the jets would have cleared the windshield and started tearing stuff up inside.

  • concussion goes off
  • fails to damage the fb tent
  • drops a few joules on the windscreen
  • drops a few on the left door, right door, hood, etc.
  • then the driver legs , arms, head, torso, spine, pelvis, thighs, etc.

So the driver died but not how I would expect.

Something about the windshield is different than say the grill. Hmm...

Boresight looked ok to. Tested as close, nedium and far ranges.

I can not see round in flight.

No smole trail.

There's no smoke trail. Not a rocket.

I can see the round in flight on one of my machines but not on the other. Never been able to figure it out.

If you fire and then reload and keep clicking to fire the PIAT round will disappear like it was fired but it will still be on the PIAT.

Is this going to be left like it is or not?

I tried this weapon for the first time yesterday. I fired 2 rounds at a 232 and watched both rounds deflect off the target. Neither one exploded. Has this happened to anyone else?
