Tried to download game starting 4-5 days ago and got minimized 2nd Windows box called: OGL TEK and nothing...just froze with internet showing inbound/outbound going full gangbusters.

Tried again 2-3 days ago: same OGL TEK issue.

Tried again today and got patch upgrades, BUT all 3 upgrades terminated into error message:

playarc02.ww2 is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded.

Recommendations?

You guys REALLY need to do something about your upload bandwidth when things like this happen [having to download a FULL install when a patch fails].

Clearly you don’t have the bandwidth to deal with this kind of load when all the die-hards are trying to download at the same time.

Time to find a service provider who can provide flexible bandwidth options – i.e. double or triple (or more) your bandwidth upon request temporarily [say 24-36 hrs] to allow for the majority of the player base to get these files downloaded in a reasonable time frame.

I have a 7.5/1Mbps connection [7.5Mbps down / 1Mbps up] & I'm currently pulling this damn file down at maybe an average of 100-150kbps – dropping as low as 75kbps & spiking albeit very briefly to 650kbps before dropping back down to 100-150 kbps range. Completely ridiculous. I’ve pulled full install EVE files [2GB+] down in less time than it’s taken this 770MB file to download – now, well over 1 hr 15 min & STILL only 90% complete. In this day & age, 1 hr or more to download a 770MB file is suicide for any online business, esp. one trying to retain an already small player base.

Just to make sure the problem wasn’t at my end [neighbourhood user load], I performed some download speed tests from various locations. Here are the results [download only]:

4.03 Mbps [bandwidthplace.com]

7.67 Mbps [speakeasy.net - Seattle]

4.86 Mbps [speakeasy.net – Dallas]

8.11 Mbps [speedtest.net – Vancouver BC]

3.72 Mbps [speedtest.net – Dallas]

7.58 Mbps [speedtest.shaw.ca]

Clearly there’s something fishy going on in your neighbourhood [Dallas-Fort Worth]

We had a squaddie trying to patch and had to download the full installer last night. We played for almost three hours and he was still not finished downloading. This was a cable modem.

It was hard enough to convince him to play again after raging about the patch bug, but now it takes forever to get the fix? Ridiculous.

EDIT: It didn't take me anywhere near this long to download a few days ago, so maybe it was a glitch over the weekend.

It's a hassle, but often using ftp instead of www (use same link for download, other than that change) gets you better and steadier DL speed.

Baffles the crap outta me why the hell they don't host anything like this on a torrent.

Would take a hell of a lot of stress off the servers.
