Bug or Feature? Panzer tracks on, but tank going left and impossible to pass 1st gear

This thing has been happening for few years and its a real PItA, I only seen this on axis tanks.

When an axis tank gets underfire frontally usually by HE or Low caliber guns like 25mm and 40mm or by long range fire, when trying to move forward the tank will be always attempting to go left or right which makes impossible for the engine to increase power and eventually change gears, it seems like the tracks were blown up but visual the tank is fine(No smoke no damage tracks).

It's still possible to move forward but you have to always be steering the tank and it takes 10 secs to probably move 1 meter, in the case of the Stug G I remember that I could reverse but it was still a very slow process and you had to keep correcting the steering.

This has happen to me at least on the STUG G, PZ IV G and PZ IV D.

Is this bug or Feature? If its feature please take it out from the game its a real gameplay killer there is no feedback available to the player when this happens and no way to bypass it. I also never had this happen when using allied tanks or seen this happen to allied tanks.

There are three damage states available for tracks.

1. Undamaged.

2. Damaged.

3. Destroyed.

The damaged state you are describing happens rarely as usually it requires multiple smallish caliber hits... and that just isn't that common. Much more common to be an all or nothing event.

Why have a damage option? Why was the ability to detrack tanks with 20mm guns taken out while having this option still ?

The game has no visual feedback for this or any info about this when this happens there is also no way to bypass it(repair them).

This game can't afford this type of incomplete features, its like getting your barrel destroyed and not knowing this, you flank a tank from the rear just to find out you can't shoot the god damn tank!..

Is this type of non-sense and huge gameplay issues that makes me curse the game and keeps me and many other players away from subscription.

I agree, there needs to be a damaged state in first person view, other than a little engine smoke. The point about a damaged barrel is spot on. Same for an ATG. I'm not saying the whole barrel needs to fall off, but some indication that things aren't right would be very useful.

Maybe this can be added in when they are fixing the turret and floating tank bug. Grrrr....

Almost all components have 4 damage levels. The visible damage for tank wheels and treads kicks in at level 4.

Generally components degrade as the increase in damage level.

I am not sure what happens on a tank but I have never experienced what is described in post 1. I'll spend some time on it but I'll need more to go on.

Allied ATG guns often cannot penetrate the frontal armor of the Stug B and so Allied gunners have learned to train their fire on the tracks at the front of the Stug (and other tanks).

This happens to allied tanks as well, its like one of the two engines, or the transmission on one side, or the track action itself on one side is damaged.

I have had this occur multiple times, and it only happens after enemy fire.

Not a bug IMHO.

How can allied gunners aim at panzer tracks frontally 800m+ away, because axis gunners can't there isn't any axis gun that can hit accurately multiple times a surface so small like the front track not even the 88 or the 75mm can do it.

I have shot s35,churchills, matties.. front tracks with 37mm and 20mm never seen them stuck on 1st gear and unable to move forward with their tracks on.

I don't think that information of 4 levels of damage is anywhere on the game nor in the wiki, if crs wants to me label a buggy unplayable game by new players with no knowledge of this information then keep has it is.

I asked XOOM to see if he knew this he didn't so also vet players have no idea about it.

Why have a damage option? Why was the ability to detrack tanks with 20mm guns taken out while having this option still ?

The damage threshold for ttracks and guns was raised because a single burst from a spitfire, hurricane, or other hispano armed aircraft would strip the tracks and guns from tanks.... [while the weaker 20mm on 109's, 190's, etc etc could not] and this was thought to be poor gameplay.

You realise that the hispano mounted on Allied aircraft is almost identical in damage output to the kwk30 mounted on panzers and 232's don't you?

It is hard with many allied guns. Significantly easier with most german ones. Less dispersion on most german guns y'see.

That said. It's really no trick at all to do once you know what you're doing.

I have shot s35' date='churchills, matties.. front tracks with 37mm and 20mm never seen them stuck on 1st gear and unable to move forward with their tracks on.[/quote']

20mm does nothing to tracks. Track threshold for damage is 100,000j or therabouts [slightly more for heavy tanks]. 20mm hispano and kwk30 do 50,000j max.

German 37mm does 190,000j at the muzzle. If you're shooting at range, the energy level quickly drops below the threshold and it will do no damage. At any but really close range the pak36 is going to struggle.

2 pounder though does nearly twice that energy...

Why should the nitty, gritty, game mechanics be published in intricate detail?

I'd rather the DEV's be producing new vehciles and code than writing and updating minutae that less than 5% of players will read.

What matters is how the game feels.

Track damage feels about right...

Take a bit of damage, and you move at a crawl. Bit more and the track comes off. What more does a player need to know? What calibers are capable of tracking probably... which can be got by asking.

Now that Gophur has mentioned four levels of damage I reckon I know the extra one... it just isn't very obvious.

Rofl track damage feels right what game you play? Everyone that gets what I said has no idea what has happen.

You can't track churchills,Matty and Chars with 37mm but in real life you could with both 20mm and 37mm.

Every new player that comes to this game will shoot with 232 at a track of an allied tank and there will be no feedback from those shots.

Axis players have alot of 20mm it play a big role on tier one and its completely useless has a weapon.

You do know that there are devs that don't code or model..

You do realise that the 20mm on Allied aircraft [but not Axis] puts out the same damage as the 20mm on the pz2 and 232?

Only with multiple guns and significantly higher rates of fire?

So if tracking of tanks with those 20mm's is made possible [again] guess what happens? [again]

A lot of very pissed off panzer drivers is what... since a large proportion of the allied air forces will be able to be able to track any panzer in game with a short burst. [again].

I mean... why do you think CRS changed it so that small caliber guns COULDN'T track tanks in the first place? It wasn't because allied pilots though it was unfair... Although some [like me] pointed out that the change would spawn complaints from then until doomsday from axis players who want to know what they can't track tanks with 20mm. [exactly like you're doing].

Sometimes realism has to take a back seat to gameplay.
