You spent all that time trying to get my attention but you didn't even post a coherent bug example?

C'mon! Give me something to go on.

I'll give you a jump start:

When is the 'no sound' ei gonna be fixed??

What is the no sound ei problem?

Test 1

  • spawn inf offline
  • place a running clone
  • walk away
  • walk back
  • hear inf footsteps
  • repeat on
    • concrete
    • grass
    • dirt

Expected functionality.

VERY often I have squad mates complaining of this problem - usually fixable with a few tweaks and they sheepishly admit they hadn't really looked at their sound card:

ISSUE: Sound affected by Sound Card MODE selection

Example: You have 5.1 selected (5 speakers) and you are using headphones. Guess what- the EI sound is going down a channel that your headphone ARE NOT PLAYING.

FIX: change your sound card software to 2.1 (HEADPHONES) or 2 speakers.

Issue tied to this fix: You have 180 degree sound - you may THINK that a sound is in 1 direction, but it could be 180 degrees the other direction...if you have very simple sound card (or on-board sound)(on-board=on motherboard and no separate sound card).

POST your sound card, software version to the soundcard AND the settings you have on sound card AS WELL AS what kind of headphones you have and how do you plug in those headphones. MANY people use USB and then have chained the USB to other items and plugged it in.

Advanced sound cards also are *very* sensitive to the settings you choose (or the default you let happen) and how you plug in your headphones affects this.

Step 1: Stop d/l pr0n or pirating music while you play

Step 2: Stop running Skype conversations and listening to music while you play.

Step 3: Really LEARN your sound card settings and visit the sound card website.

Step 4: STOP using on-board sound

Step 5: Adjust settings.

Step 6: **PROFIT**

Step 7: Realize that game is 3D Doppler and the sound here is the best of almost any game ever created...if your settings are correct.

Good luck.

Thanks Joker. Good point. I don't have a crazy sound setup here but I can get some 5.1s to test with if I need them.

Discussing sound issues in another thread, and there may be a problem which needs looking at. I'll try to pin it down a bit more in game, but obviously it is difficult to test a sound you can't hear, if you see what I mean. Some preliminary observations:

To the best of my knowledge, all my sound settings are correct (in game and in Windows). One odd thing is that I have a SB X-FI card, and if I select that in WWIIOL settings it doesn't work very well. I have to choose primary sound driver, which "usually" works very well.

I have definitely experienced the "no footsteps" where I don't hear an EI coming into an area (usually a CP). Then again, I often don't see them either until they materialise in front of me, LMG spitting fire. Is this just another version of the same bug, where updates are not received from the server, or are badly delayed?

I am also seeing (or hearing?) problems with directional sound. Sometimes it is spot on, sometimes it is not. And it seems to vary at different times. As an example, I was guarding a FB (again) when I heard a friendly Crusader approaching. I located his position by audio, but looking at the map his mark was about 20 degrees off his sound location (at about 500m). I stood up, turned around and checked again - this time it was spot on. Again, is this really a sound issue, or a data update issue?
