R35 open slit can't be penetrated by 20mm?

Bug:

The R35 driver and commander with the slit open a 232 20mm both HE and AP can't penetrate it from multiple angles and even at close range.

I didn't try but I'm pretty sure INF can't do nothing also is this realistic and suppose to be like this?

Balance:

Currently this is one of the tier 0 tanks that a 232 can't do nothing against (including no ability to detrack) I can't believe there is no weak-spot that multiple hits from a 20mm AP round could kill this tank.

If I'm not wrong in the rear on the metal circle is where the tank would be refueled, could it really sustain multiple 232 hits?

(We also have to consider that the metal would begin to get pretty hot and maybe ignite the fuel)

Depending on the source, the max penetration range of a 20mm AP round is only about 38mm at point blank ranges.

Might be some small variations in that.

R35 has something like 32mm on the front plate to 40-43mm on all other sides, including the turret.

You could only kill it frontally if you were gonna kill it, and you'd have to be very close, probably inside 100m.

But maybe someone else has better info.

Overall the R35 is pretty well armored for its time. My guess is that even if the slit is open, there is armored glass behind it (most of the tanks had this feature). So penetrating the slit with a 20mm is not very easy I guess. This is just my first guess without checking my sources to verify this statement.

OK, for starters.

There is no 'vision slot' as we might think it.

It is an episcope. Which is like a periscope but with vision through an extremely narrow slot in the armour utilizing prisms to gain a decent feidl of vision. Narrower than a rifle bullet, and it backed by another plate. There were several types of episcopes, some being adjustable in opening size.

It could be argued that the episcope slot might be a weak point. But certainly not to small arms. and at any rate would require a hit on a slot only a few millimeters wide, which is backed by vision prisms and another protective plate.

They certainly aren't as vulnerable as a direct vision slot.

The R35 is less armored on the front than on the sides.. thats uncommon.

Ingame the r35 driver slit is equal in measures to the outside view so he is not seeing from a periscope. Ingame there are 2 periscopes one for the commander one for the gunner BUT the gunner has also one slit next to him like the driver, this one can't be open or close and probably has some glass protection.

I also haven't read anything about a glass able to stop multiple 20mm hits point blank.

Still my other question wouldn't the fuel be fill from the rear on that circle and how much thickness plating are we talking about?

I don't think the 20mm ingame do 38 mm penetration , more like 25mm max

Yeah I wouldn't know, I rarely use 20mm armed vehicles because I don't seem to be very good with them.

Keep in mind 38mm penetration would only be at ranges of say 15-20m. At 100m it's somewhere around 30mm.

Rear plate was 40mm.

The R35 is a strange tank in general. It was the most numerous french tank of World War 2. It was considered a great tank in the armour department but it's main gun is almost completely worthless. It was designed for anti-infantry roles.

It's actually 32mm on the rear hull.

And that rear circle is not were you fill up the fuel my bad.

Yet still looking to know how a 232 20mm AP and HE cant do any damage to the driver with the driver slit open.

You're assuming CRS modelled the R35 correctly.

Visually, its incorrect. As are all French tanks utilising episcopes. They seem right as far as the damage model is concerned however.

This is how it's supposed to look. Note the driver 'slot' is only 5 - 7mm wide.

Ok but the episcopes could be open in real life leaving the crew exposed, ingame they get closed something that would not happen in real life...
