Memory leak hotfix until next patch.

I tested it and it seems to work.

I spawned infantry and aircraft about 30 times consecutively in different towns without CTD. I wasn't able to do this in any 1.34 version so far.

Memory size of ww2.exe according to task manager was roughly 2400 mb after spawning 30 times - from previous reports it seems that the CTD occured at about 1.7 gb.

Loading times still weren't as good as in 1.33 though (10-20 seconds). Loading times for spawning into the same area a second time were greatly reduced (1-4 seconds).

My guess is that the game loads the terrain of an area into memory when you first spawn into that area and then leaves it there.

But with this hotfix anyone with 4gb of memory should be able to spawn so often that the bug has no practical effect.

Someone give Tigger6 a medal.

Yeah, it's not a fix, just a band-aid, it's going to crash eventually for most people.

And the medal belongs to oldzeke, so make sure the text on it is LARGE AND EASILY READABLE for his old eyes :)

Honestly another player posted about this awhile back. I just rememberd the post and decieded to try it.

But I can't remember the players tag that orginaly posted about it.

It does seem to be working for me on win7 64 but it is try at your own risk.

It creates a backup of your ww2.exe so if you need to revert you simply remove the patched exe and rename the backup/remove backup from the name.

Is this the same 4gb patch that fixed the woes of Skyrim shortly after release?

I haven't been around lately. Is this Memory leak only related to those running Win 64 bit?

Pretty sure it hits all to some extent. I've only tried it on 64 bit windows.

Hopefully the 1.35 patch will fix the mem leak for real. In the interm this is

simply a try at your own risk deal that's helped me.

Looks like i got thru to some people before they ripped my post down atleast. :D

The patch is for:

x86 (32bit) systems with 4gb or more RAM (only applies to windows professional releases)

x64 (64bit) with 2gb and a 4gb or more pagefile ( check under system -> advanced -> performance -> advanced )

x64 with more than 4gb of RAM

And yes you might have used this patch for other games, it's quite a common solution when the programmers are lazy. ;) I personaly found it when i got tired of explaining to people on the SH4 forums how to do it manually.
