Bombing.

This probably isn't the right place to ask but does bombing player controlled areas above 1km work? I've never played air but I've heard many complaints on YouTube recently. Some users say that with the newer updates (the past 1-2 years) the game has changed dramatically (for the worse). So, is it true that they're ineffective? I want to hear from personal experience. I've personally seen better improvement in infantry combat.

The crucial thing to understand is unit max. visibility limit. Each unit has one, it ranges from ~700m for infantry to 6km for destroyers, the remaining units are somewhere inbetween. What vis limit means is that units which are further than that unit's max. vis limit from you are invisible to you but also to your client. The server doesn't send status update about them to you. This is to prevent your link from being clogged up by irrelevant status updates about players moving in Antwerp when you are fighting in Sedan.

Next technicality: hit detection is done on shooter's side. This is necessary due to Internet lag, but a side result of this is that if your client doesn't know about a unit, it can't kill it. So you can drop a bomb from 5km straight on the head of a rifleman on the ground, but you will deal no damage. The rifleman might see the bomb fall, because he sees you, but you don't see him so he won't get hurt by the bomb.

There are more strange situations caused by this unequal vis. limit. For instance, you can park a 88 3km from an airfield and shoot at airplanes as they are spawning. However, the 88 has shorter vis. limit than an airplane, so players spawning in won't see you and won't see your rounds land, they will just die from time to time, without any apparent cause.
