and of course the online/server is issue to this i know...

because the host will adjudicate your game client as not correct (because you changed it) and we don't allow hacked clients to play the game ... the host can't tell the differance between a sound file change and a hack because to be truly technical about it, a sound change IS a hack, if we didn't build it, publish it and comply the host with it, it will always be a hacked client if YOU change it
