We are currently migrating those servers (and data) to more secure and modern builds, and this also requires extensive rebuilding of our network behind the curtain. It's going to take time. It's complex, risky, has no documentation and is a lot of work because of the extra burdens that brings. We're working away at it.

It's on a box that died and we haven't been able to recover it. Same box that had Wire Tap on it.

I think we'll have to bite the bullet and start a new one. maybe one that is player directed. I'll talk to XOOM about it.

Thanks for the honest answer Gophur.

I believe it's easier to accept that answer then to keep hoping and waiting.:)

No backup of the data ?

Um yeah. No back up of data. *face palm*

That's why the new team is taking more time to get up and running. We're fixing and learning at the same time with our primary goal of fail safng and redundancy so the game and services stay online and operational then we focus on improvements (see csr 2.0, steam, etc,)

Right (been there, done that, felt the pain and moved forward). Are you 100% sure the data is not salvageable ? Using some data recovery techniques I did manage to recover most of the data. Unless you don't have direct access to the disk or if it was a severe hardware problem ....

If there is 0 chance of data recovery, like I told you on the email I've sent you, some web crawlers/search engines allows us to view a cached version of your site, allowing us to recover at least a part of what was lost. Unfortunately even yahoo seems to no longer have a cached version of the wiki (what you should have done is as soon as it happened, acknowledge it had happen and immediately done a copy of googles cache). Now the only cache I've found is this:

I'll look at your email. Not sure if Dave has delved too far into it other than not booting since it is an old SCSI interface. I did send him the disks.

TBH I think a community run wiki would be a better choice.

I'll look for your email.

That's great gophur, but we already worked on the wiki (ask bloo - the only thing we could not change without asking was the frontpage). The thing is that the wiki had lots of information that will be hard to redo, if we start from scratch.

If you need help setting up the server, let me know - All I need is a virtual server up and running (with a auto-backup system in place).

the reason we may need to start again is we may not be able to recover the old data and content, that's what Gophur was alluding to

Yes, I understand that DOC. But please, try to recover data from that disk - it will be hard without it. Either way, as soon as we start as soon as we get it finished.
