Over the last two, maybe three days, I have been getting numerous network connection failures. I'd say at least 1 every hour. But, I haven't seen these in months, this just started a couple days ago, so something has changed.

And no, nothing on my end has changed.

Ask others online if it's happing to them. If not then yea it likely is your end or at one of the hops you take to the server.

Could be your ISP selling more bandwith than they are providing, could be a bad connector between you and the outside pole. Could be a number of things.
