When I go to keymapper I hi lite what I want to change and press/mash the button on jstick but it doesn't show up and change the key setting.

It's plugged in right? And you have to double click the keymap so it opens up a pop up box.

yeah it lights up but wont register the button.

Start Menu > Devices and Printers > Right click Logitech Extreme 3D Pro > Game controller settings > Properties > Settings > Calibrate

Follow the onscreen instructions, if it works there then we know it's a game setting, if not then we know its a problem with windows / the joystick.
