#465 - 1.34.10.8 - UAC shield on launchers (settings and game)

For me both "settings" and "game launcher" have an "User Account Control" (UAC) shield next to them.

So starting anything (even the offline mode) pops up a window "Do you want this program to change settings on your computer".

That never happened with the old client (1.34.9.255)

It's being doing that for me since 1.34.10.5

Also to try give more info:

I am on:

Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, Swedish version

I have installed (both old and new game) on a windows software RAID0 (not a standard "program files" location)

My Documents is "moved", meaning I have all my documents on a separate drive. Also on this separate drive I have not given access to security groups SYSTEM or Administrators. Or in other words: It is only my logged in user that can access it.

And again, the above setup works with the old client, so guessing some UAC-stuff must have changed somewhere in the installer.

Same situation for me.

Windows 8.1 64 bit:confused:

Interesting - I'm on 8.1 64-Bit, not getting that.

1) Did you install over-top of 1.34.9.255 ? or did you uninstall first, then install the new one?

2) Are you running from the Metro interface?

I to have this happening as well.

Started after uninstalling the 1.34.9.255 version and installing 1.34.10.5, not sure about offline mode. It has continued as well as i installed 1.34.10.8 overtop of 1.34.10.5.

Windows7 home premium 64 bit.

It's not really a big issue, for me, just another click with the mouse but i thought i would add mine to the list as we test it for these purposes.

1 answer):

In all my tests I have uninstalled the game, and checked that install folder was gone (however never touched the folder in "my documents") before installing the new version. And even if I haven't checked 1.34.10.8, the 1.34.10.5 uninstall cleaned the registry, and start menu icons (except start menu folder).

So except for the folder in "My documents" both uninstallers seem to clean ok.

2 answer):

I am running Windows 7, so no metro here

I can add a difference against other installers though:

These new installers do NOT have a shield on-top of their icons, like the old 1.34.9.255

Example:

  • When launching installer for 1.34.9.255 -> I get UAC blackout with question, nothing more
  • When launching installer for 1.34.10.8 -> UAC do NOT open, instead a "security warning for opening files" with question "are you sure you want to open this file?"
  • If accepting THEN you get a UAC blackout with question, but exe-file has two more options added:
    • wwiiol000134108.exe /SPAWNWND=$520592 /NOTIFYWND=$2C02E6
    • (numbers after each dollar change each time I try it)

So my guess (still) to this problem is that the installer requests wrong rights when installing.

okay, a test build I sent to wocka seems to fix the UAC issue. Anyone who has the same problem that he describes wrt. UAC shield, or who needs to have access to the external settings program to change game settings, plz pm me.

These fixes will be in the .9 test release when it comes out (dunno when that will be, but not too long)

- I get a UAC pop up when I manually launch PlayGATE or use the Start Menu Shortcut to play online

- I do not get a UAC pop up when PlayGATE launches the game

- I do get a UAC pop up if I maunally launch the game (offline) or use the Start Menus shortcut for Practice Offline

All installers I tried after CERDIP gave me a "special version of 1.34.10.8" have worked. So these are ok for me.

1.34.10.8 (special cerdip version)

1.34.10.9

1.34.10.9a

With ok I mean:

You get an UAC window when installing, but when installed no more UAC-pops

Running Swedish Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit

So not sure what is different with you guys that still show UAC at game launch. Only "different" thing I do with my install is that I have the game installed on an extra drive (not C:), where actually system access is restricted on NTFS file system (only my own user can reach it), and my documents are also on a different drive. So in a way my system should have more problems. Or maybe you just get a firewall UAC thingy... strange

Weird.

I still get it on PlayGATE launch or when launching the game offline (direct ww2.exe execution).
