Knife-kills: Is this deliberate?

Just tested infantry a bit with Hastien and we found some interesting Joule-values:

We attacked each other's hand sticking out from a window at point blank range.

Here's what happened:

Luger 248 Joules - enemy didn't die

I switched to the MP40 which did 198 Joules per shot .. took two more shots to the hand to kill him.

Then we did the same thing with the knife:

720 Joules and instant death from the first stab to the hand.

Is this a game-play decision to enable people to insta-kill EI they manage to sneak up on?

There is a funny story that goes with that, but although I never tested the joules per hit on the knife that's likely correct as to the last knife update.

Just to add it was upped under the old crs team.

:)

I don't mind this setting if it is/was a "game-play" decision. If you manage to sneak up into knife-range, you should get the damn kill.. :)

Right, but he died from a stab to the hand, and not from a bullet to the hand. Neither of those should kill him.

Yeah.. you have a point there. Seems that three MP40/Luger shots to either the hand or to a foot will do the trick (from pointblank range). Which, I can kind of understand, since three 9mm to your hand will probably leave you with a bloody stump, or at least with enough holes in you to take you out of the fight. But a single knife thrust to your hand killing you is kinda off.

Would probably be better if it was just single knife thrusts to the torso or head that can kill you instantly.

The "damage model" for infantry doesn't have that kind of fidelity. Damage from knives was increased quite a few years ago simply because it was too hard to get a knife kill. When we got it to the point where you could be guaranteed a reasonable shot at a knife kill, as you can see, the lack of fidelity in the infantry "model" became evident.

It was considered a fair trade off. You're pretty vulnerable once you're in knife range without a gun at the ready.
