Tracers and Turrets visually offset from unit origin

As per DM's original post, this stuff is still happening, tanks and atg's seem to suffering from some sort of offset bug still. I see tanks and atg's rounds appearing from a few meters in front of where they should, those same units can't be killed by hitting them in the usual places.

Last night I tried to capture what I was talking about in my above post, I didn't manage to record a tank or an atg doing it but I did get an LMG that shows the 'offset' that I'm talking about. I hope you can see that the rounds from the LMG aren't coming from the correct position. The visual object and the in game physical object appear to be offset from each other.

@Nick Good stuff. I have an idea of what this might be, and it's not an offset bug, I believe it has to do with the method that is used to display turret directions. Gonna do some digging and find out. I'm going to move this into it's own thread. Since this one is a mix of numerous things and mostly regarding infantry death lag.

If you can get a better video, or more videos, that'd be great. Also - in terms of not being able to kill tanks and things where they appear to be, that sounds like it might be something different as well. That can go into it's own thread as well.

Thank Waver, I'll keep trying to capture it happening.

Just to add, when this happens to a tank I have an almost impossible time trying to kill it, all shots in the usual kill spots (even in the side) do not kill it. I get the feeling that the part of the tank that receives damage isn't in the same position as the visual model of the tank.

Where is the position of the turret or the position where the rounds originate from derived?

This is still happening. Shots coming from 2 turret widths away from the tank that you see.

I think there might be two issues here...the offset of where visual effects occur from where enemy units are located, and where the target is when you try to hit it.

Back in the early days, we were told that each visual object or effect has an origin location, which must be sent to you via the server for you to see that object or effect. The issue is related to the data rate from the server to each player. The data rate is fully assigned, and the limited number of bits available for the angle and distance to the visual origin of tracers and other visual effects is only enough to locate them approximately. So, visual effects often don't originate from exactly at the object that you know is associated with them.

So that one isn't actually a bug...it's a design limitation.

The other one sounds like a bug to me.
