Are you playing on Windows?

If so - R click on the launch icon (on your desktop)

click properties then the shortcut tab

Make sure Run: Normal Window

I have the same problem.

Think that it is not taking the right configuration file, so despite executing setttings,exe (where the right resolution is appearing) or changing the setting from game, when entering game its taking the default ones (resolution, help on, language english, etc...)

I tried also removing the game and installing from zero, but same result.

Executed the game as adminstrator and nothing.

The shortcut tab shows running on Normal Window.

Is there any folder name change or anything that might be preventing the settings file not being read correctly?

I also have the exact same problem.
But where is that settings file you refering to? Settings.exe I know where it is but it have to save the settings somewhere.

I have other issues with other programs after the latest WIndows 10 update, maybee the same story here.

I am running Windows 10 Creators update, ver 1703 (OS version 15063.540).

What are you running and who has the same problem as us? (check by running winver)

Same windows 10 version here toytwo

About settings, I am talking about the cfml files and other things that are stored at C:/users/<MYUSER>/Documents/Battleground Europe

Always thought those were the setting for the game...  wwiiol.xml sounds like the good one.

Yeah OHM, tried that already. The problem is that is not saving settings. Even if I choose to disable "display end game credits" it still enabled  after restart.

Yes that xml is what the preferences tab settings writes to. Right click on it, select properties,  and make sure it's not been set to read only.

Same here.

As I said, looks like the game is not finding the saved settings and always executing with the default ones.

If the settings are stored where I think they are, my username has a rare character and might be a reason for game not able to save or load the custom settings. ????

Editing since oldzeke answered while i was typing :D

- entered game and changed language to spanish and video settings yo 1920-1080. saved. exited

- my wiiol.xml file changed time of modification

- entered game but still default setting active - language english and video set to 800x800

If you make a test user named, eh just say WWIIONLINE for simplicity
will it then save the settings?

@fiambre right click that wwiiol.xml file.

Select properties and check that it's not set as read only.

If it's not set as read only, open it with word pad or note pad and go to find. Type res in the find box.

Edit the resolution to your desired resolution and save.

If that works then it is reading that settings xml but not writing to it.

Hi OldZeke, it is not readonly and it can't be permission problem because in Win 10 the user always has full access to My Documents.

But I noticed that my settings file (wwiiol.xml) was missing plenty of options. I uninstall and deleted manually all files refering to the game, in My Documents and in Program(x86) and installed the game again.

With high hope that now will it work... but no, same story again, it will not read the settings file now.

Aupa Oldz.

wwiiol.xml file changed. Is not readonly.

Actually this is what it contains:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<message what="0">
  <value name="app.awshigh" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.awslow" type="long" value="65535"/>
  <value name="app.loadtime" type="long" value="16430"/>
  <value name="app.pponok" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.ppook" type="long" value="65280"/>
  <value name="app.version" type="long" value="12"/>
  <value name="config.authoritative" type="bool" value="true"/>
  <value name="quickhelp-persona" type="bool" value="true"/>
</message>

But last time i checked had much more lines.

No res showing anywhere... so entered game and changed lots of things

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<message what="0">
  <value name="app.ambientlevel" type="long" value="2"/>
  <value name="app.awshigh" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.awslow" type="long" value="65535"/>
  <value name="app.deathicons" type="bool" value="false"/>
  <value name="app.hudvisible" type="long" value="2"/>
  <value name="app.iconmode" type="long" value="0"/>
  <value name="app.language" type="long" value="4"/>
  <value name="app.languagefilter" type="bool" value="false"/>
  <value name="app.loadtime" type="long" value="16367"/>
  <value name="app.missionwaypoints" type="bool" value="false"/>
  <value name="app.pponok" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.ppook" type="long" value="65280"/>
  <value name="app.resolution" type="string" value="1920x1080x32"/>
  <value name="app.showcredits" type="bool" value="false"/>
  <value name="app.sound" type="string" value="Primary"/>
  <value name="app.squadinvites" type="bool" value="false"/>
  <value name="app.version" type="long" value="12"/>
  <value name="app.video" type="string" value="{D7B71E3E-52C4-11CF-FE53-68A41BC2DB35}"/>
  <value name="app.wantmessagealert" type="bool" value="false"/>
  <value name="config.authoritative" type="bool" value="true"/>
  <value name="hud.alerts.textmode" type="long" value="0"/>
  <value name="quickhelp-persona" type="bool" value="true"/>
</message>

And reentered game.

All the changes gone. Exited game without saving and my wwiiol.xml again is this

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<message what="0">
  <value name="app.awshigh" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.awslow" type="long" value="65535"/>
  <value name="app.loadtime" type="long" value="16400"/>
  <value name="app.pponok" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.ppook" type="long" value="65280"/>
  <value name="app.version" type="long" value="12"/>
  <value name="config.authoritative" type="bool" value="true"/>
  <value name="quickhelp-persona" type="bool" value="true"/>
</message>

Any log I should check?

So it's actually writing to the xml but not saving the changes?

This is what it should have for resolution.

  <value name="app.resolution" type="string" value="1920x1080x32"/>

Is there the possibility that you have another wwiiol install on your machine or another battleground Europe folder?

I had a beta from a year ago, and still have the Rapid Assault directory (but does not appear as uninstalable in the control panel)

But deleted the beta directory and RA doesnt have any  folder at <user>

------

The longer xml i wrote is what is left once I have changed the settings, including the resolution (which doesnt appear), and if I enter the game again, the xml seems to be rewritten again with the short version, despite not changing and saving it.

So behaviour is: it takes a custom xml all the time despite it is able to write changes (or at least some) to the xml.

Did a new installation, this time renaming the Battleground Europe folder in the USERS directory.

Once game is installed, you have the chance to run the settings and then run the game.

After saving the new settings (which were the correct ones with 1920-1080) and prior running the game itself, checked the wwiiol.xml and had these parameters (resolution and others)

Game ran into 800x800 instead.

Exited without saving any changes and wwiiol.xml was already changed to default

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<message what="0">
  <value name="app.awshigh" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.awslow" type="long" value="65535"/>
  <value name="app.loadtime" type="long" value="16600"/>
  <value name="app.pponok" type="long" value="255"/>
  <value name="app.ppook" type="long" value="65280"/>
  <value name="app.version" type="long" value="12"/>
  <value name="config.authoritative" type="bool" value="true"/>
  <value name="quickhelp-persona" type="bool" value="true"/>
</message>

So, something in the execution loading a wrong file or not finding the wwiiol.xml.

As said  before, my path to these files have a "ñ" in the username so wonder if others with same problem also have a weird path.

Will create a common account in my computer and try from there and see if it goes different.

Fiambre.

Et voilá

Entering at my computer with another user (administrador in this case) created a new documents folder for the game.

And settings are being saved. Able to set resolution and other things and wwiiol.xml is keeping the changes and game is running OK.

So the problem might come from the path where the setting are being saved.

In my case is C:\Users\iñaki\Documents\Battleground Europe

Anyone else with this and having also similar path in regards to the characters?

Hi fiambre

That was thing I didn't test, make a new user account.
Worked great! I have Swedish character in my Windows username and after I made a new local user account in plain english and started the game and made my setting and restarted all settings stayed!

Finally and thanks for sharing your solution.

See ya on the battlefield.

I'll see if a few of our translation team can replicate this.  Hopefully it's just a weird one off type of thing.   Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
