AB gate issue

The gate in the walled AB.

Is it made from Alien Wood. The visual looks like 2x4's wood.

The present gate can flip a tank or truck. Can stop any type of rounds.

These should only be decorations. This needs to be fixed. Or at the very least, be facing out for the benefit of the owner of the AB.

Yes, if you ram into it, it can mess with your sunday drive

Only the textured portion stops bullets, the transparent parts do not.
All textured terrain polys stop bullets currently. A twig can stop a DD 5" gun.
(leaves and bushes are not terrain polys, before anyone says it)

I personally have not hit the gates, as owner or attacker enough to be worried about it.
Same gates we have had for years.

I would imagine that since changing them entails editing the AB model, recompiling entire map with new model, releasing a patched terrain map
and currently terrain editing is locked so wont be happening, it wont happen soon.

If you do not intend on changing this. Then make the gate point outside of the wall so it supports the owners and not the enemy.

PLEASE!

The gates are part of the terrain, so they can't be fixed until we are in a position to be able to rebuild terrain.

No excuses.

Hi imded,

Would love to sit down and have some coffee sometime. I can't recall what thread I read it in, but I'm pretty sure the gates were placed that way to funnel attackers in along a path for easier internal defense. I think the way it went was AB no walls. AB with walls. AB with walls and gates. All done with the intention of helping the defender. I'm not saying the AB concept could be rethought and redone but just removing the gates probably causes more issues than solves for defenders. I'm for a from the ground up solution but would have to give it some serious thought before I could add more to the conversation.

S!

P.S. I'd like to see spawning depots half inside the AB and the other half out of line of sight but nearby, possibly within nearby buildings. Same for regular depots as well. Blend the spawn area into the surrounding buildings but out of sight and have a couple or a few for the player to select from. Would require some terrain rebuilding so maybe 2.0. By the way, those gates get me often.

Originally AB's were open affairs, same footprint, but they only had chainlink fencing, which infantry tended to kind of merge through, and some towns had open AB's like some do now, and 2 different bunker types, like we have now but way different models.

Myself i like the free form open AB's better, you can set up the town itself as the defense and have the inf spawn, veh spawn, and bunker in separate locations
much harder to lock down

The problem with outward facing gates is it would block exiting tanks from pivoting at the gate to roll down the wall forcing the exiting tank further away from the wall exposing it.

Hi,

I believe that is the reason they do face inward, exist and are made of alien wood.

I would be awed if I ever saw an alien but if I ever saw alien wood I would run like heck.

But in the regular configuration. It hampers getting out.

Then make it a decoration and you can go thru it.

Make it open and close, controllable from inside the bunker.

Could be fun for giggles, for a few minutes anyways
