It seems to me that fire bugs and engine bugs are caused by the client not receiving the packet that says that someone has quit firing or turned their engine off. Couldn't we the client  have a command to send to the server to update or reset all relevant sound states instead of despawning to reset them.

I still don't understand why we the client can't send a command to the server to reset the sound states. Seems like whether it's server side or client side it would solve the problem. Lots of times people don't listen or know what you're talking about when you tell them they have a firebug.
