flaming planes keep flying

I think we had this topic allready regarding some tanks but this campaign a lot of us witnessed burning planes just keep flying an in some cases even fighting. I myself RTBed the second 190 yesterday that had only one wing left and was on fire.

Is this a known bug? I don't recall this happen on a regular basis in the past, but recently there has been a lot of fighting in flames.

If this is not a bug but a feature I just have to say it looks really stupid that you can fly around 20 minutes while on fire. Normally a fire would cause serious damage to a plane. When this is not a case, there shouldn't be continous fires.

I'd say there are three solution to interrupt the stupid:

1) Turn off the "flaming" effect after x time if you want those planes to be able to keep flying (because the structural damage was not enough to make it an instakill)

2) Let a flaming plane explode after x amount of time (because the structural damage was enough for an instakill)

3) combine flaming effect with auto-bail. No real pilot would have stayed in a burning plane under any circumstances. There are accounts of pilots that even carried pistols with them because they'd rather wanna shoot themselves than burn to death.

What did you see on your end (1st person)? Did you see your wing gone and did you hear the “clicks” of you being on fire?

I got in game footage, I can upload it later if needed.

Both times the wing was gone from my point of view. Both times no clicks.

The first time (seen above) actually nothing happened to me after being hit except for the wing to fall off. The second time it sounded like I was exploding, but the plane didn't explode, just my cannons stuck in a sound loop.

It looks in the video above as if the lift-force-vector direction from the wings is (away from the Earth), not (normal to the wing). Thus the remaining wing provides (away from the Earth lift), and the plane can keep on flying.

Fix that apparent code design mistake, and maybe planes would respond correctly to losing a wing, i.e. they'd roll very rapidly.

The last sentence is totally true, but that's only if the pilot gets out before the wing comes off.

WWII fighter pilots generally could not get out of a one-wing plane. The high speed roll and instability/buffeting resulted in massive rapidly changing forces that prevented any coordinated action, and are believed to often have resulted in blackout/redout and/or unconsciousness from being banged against the cockpit.
