The Bofors gunshield

S! Nice to see AA getting some love. However the bofors gunshield makes it difficult to track and lead targets going right to left horizontally when they are low. the shield obstructs the view on the right side. can this be adjusted? half my kills are deflection shots and view horizontally is key. Also the bofors rolls uncontrollably when deploying on a slope.

Appreciate the effort S!

The shield is a blessing and a curse - the view obstruction in the near horizontal is a tradeoff between protection and ease of view. We changed the contact points slightly to get rid of the rocking it previously suffered along with a weird collider glitch that made it hard to deploy inside FB tents. Does the gun slide regardless of incline or does it start at a particular angle?

On the rolling
Did you apply the brake?

Due to some game changes, i just learned that you have to go in the keymapper
and specifically set the center brake for the bofors and 88
if you play multiple factions, map it on each bofors.
Then it will hold on a hill

If game realism is important, note that none of the modeled AA cannons should work on slopes of more than maybe 10%. The rotation mechanisms and sights were designed to operate correctly only when the gun was level, and the leveling jacks had a limited range.

WTH, I edited this last night, major typo, "1%" should be "10%".

This is a game, not real life, and it's supposed to be fun.

When you stuff all this realism crap to the rafters (selective realism to boot), you lose players.

Some customers like realism and think it makes a game fun. Others are just here for a shooter, and think realism is irrelevant or makes a game un-fun. I totally appreciate the tension between those two viewpoints, and that each faction thinks it's larger and/or more valid.

Note that your quote of my comment was taken before I fixed the major typo in it, i.e. 10%, not 1%.

You'd still shoot it, but you'd throw your range and probably lead computer out the window
or what ever manual means you are using.

In game we do not have those anyways, seat of pants

thats a bit disingenuous.

1) at no point has mo suggested, or me, or anyone that isn't fond of having their view blocked, that the shields and how they're modeled aren't accurate.

2) at no point is the "but its realistic" crowd acknowledging the massively restricted view options of the 'people' attached to the gun as being unrealistic.

3) peep sights are already evidence that the game, its devs, and its players (all of them) are largely 100% fine with certain things being done a certain way to make the unit fun to play

4) semi translucent areas of certain weapon systems doesn't change the ballistics or other characteristics of the weapon - it just makes it usable given the technical limitations we currently are stuck with until such time as 6DoF, VR, or some other technical solution is arrived at

dont let perfect get in the way of good.

No, damned if you try and change something that NO ONE COMPLAINED ABOUT.

The distance at which you could hear trucks, yes.

The actual sounds of the trucks, NOPE. I'm one of the biggest forum hizzores and I have NEVER seen a post saying the trucks don't sound right...

With all that was put into this release (in short turnaround btw), how do you know that any of the volunteers who contributed to this release even have the ability or knowledge to fix "all the crap wrong with the game"? How do you know if those volunteers who do have the ability and knowledge to fix "all the crap wrong with the game" aren't working on trying to do just that?

Any chance we could have both units in the list, split 50/50?

People who want gun shields can spawn them, people who don't can leave 'em home?

(individual loadouts would fix a lot of this stuff potentially, especially with aircraft)

I don't see any reason why they couldn't off the top of my head, but that is up to production team ( @HATCH ).. I know many of us internally would love loadouts but its not an easy feat and would take a lot of dev time to complete.

Instead of throwing a tantrum why not keep a healthy discussion going until/if something is worked out or changed?

Im pretty positive nothing is set in stone and tweaking is always a possibility?

Loadouts wouldn't be necessary to implement this, if the spawn lists included two models per gun...one with the shield, the other without.

I pitched the same idea to Bmbm in the 88 gunshield thread.

Call it whatever you want,, you can be a sycophant if you like, I call things like I see them.

Ridiculous balance changes with tiers, equipment that was fine before being gimped, etc.
