Flaming planes keep flying.

Well, I'm used to seeing a P38 flaming and flying for another 1-2 mins killing things and flying like nothing happened.

But today I flamed a spit 1 in my JU87 and it kept flying and turning with me for another 1-2 minutes before the wing fell off and he died.

Looks like this bug has found it's way to another aircraft.

I've seen this over and over and over. Probably not as bad as flaming tanks that keep firing (while the crew inside are burning alive, their lungs scorched to cinders).

We are on the edge of brand new damage models for all aircraft that are calculated from live fire tests against 100s of airframes and engines. Each damage model will be peculiar to that airframe and engine in far greater detail than is currently modeled. The same is true of component modeling.

generally speaking a single 40mm HE will down light weight fighters....or say 4-5 20mm hits. Heavy fighters like the p-47 will absorb higher levels of damage compared to the likes of early spits and me109s. Inline engines will not be very damage resistant whereas radials which could have cylinders blown off and still run will be damage resistant.

This needs playtesting once the data is pushed but it's coming...sooner rather than later.

We really need G airframe limits too to prevent unrealistic flying but that's a bit further out.

remember though, the burning effect is not terribly specific about what are we burning, fuel behind the firewall, or is that ammo on fire in the crew cabin.
your gonna die either way, even if you despawn, but one fire ends you faster than the other

planes, depending on plane, tend to display a little bit better as to what you just flamed.

I remember flying a blen once, and my engine got flamed, i was flying for several minutes trying to make it back to the field watching the dead engine burn
and Rmack is on teamspeak, DIVE! he says, Dive it will put out the flames

It didn't work!

My wing finally snapped off and she was over :(

Myself, i like that non structural damage that starts a fire can still take you out a bit later due to the fire itself.
