Foot steps not registering

To many times in the last few days foot steps are not registering , especially in buildings. My headphones are usually in the high to very high setting but I don't hear soldiers running upstairs when I should nor even when they enter the building . Anybody else have issues with that?

Happens for years, this gets me much more upset then lag kills.  Probably lag sound, because sound in WWIIOL is in a black hole time well of X seconds for startup/stop which happens much faster and more often for infantry then a tank or plane that does not startup/stop often.

I think it is certain buildings, more than anything, although a few years ago it was a lot easier to determine where someone was by the sound of their footsteps than these days.  Seems like that was a change, to me, as I recall it being pretty sudden.

An example of a building where footsteps do seem not right would be the steps leading to the church roof.  I frequently can't hear people coming up the stairs, and if I'm not watching them, I can get ambushed.

Remember that there is a way to walk more silently.  Some players use that option very effectively, even if most players seem unaware it even exists.  So, it isn't always a bug.  Sometimes its skill.

I agree on that last point and that does happen and should be an option.

But there is no getting around going up stairs, the rush up often has no sound, and that bites given the lag advantage of the mover.

I get ur last point, and I'm aware of it. But out of the last few times when u see them all of a sudden right there it was for sure no walking silently . Or slowly crawling up the steps.

Remember if you press T it puts you in walk mode and other players then can't hear your footsteps.

Not saying that is what is happening in all these cases, but something to bear in mind.

See, now, mwhitman, I wasn't actually going to TELL them.  Why do I want my opponents to know that if they don't already know?  :)

As for the general thing, I still think it might be on a building by building basis.  There are some buildings I've never had a problem hearing people.  Others, like the church, I never hear people, and I've factored that into my gameplay.  Weird, but I hear people walking in the grass sometimes like 50-80m away.

Does anyone else think a change was made a few years ago?  I used to be able to pinpoint to within 10m where someone was, and their direction relative to me.  Now, I can't trust that where I think I hear them is where they actually are, and the distances seem whacked.

For me it happens primarily in AB Bunker defense. In Depot flags from time to time as well, sometimes there EI is just plain damn sneaky. In the AB Bunker however Ei will come running into radio room with no footstep sounds at all on the stairs. Sometimes happens with French & Brit Inf, but I notice it most when the American Infantry comes in.
