No worries - Ukraine, guided mlrs and other things have kept me plenty busy. I miss the player community here…  I miss the technical discussions we could have at times.

Rather than tracking X amount of shards and bringing the cpu to a standstill you could just use a percentage chance of being hit depending on your proximity to the impact. A couple of simple Raycasts from the point of impact to the unit in question would tell you if it was behind cover, no one apart from the coders would even know the difference. 

Secondary frags which is what you are talking about would need to be accounted for in a good frag model. Many WWII infantryman were blinded by sand as a secondary frag.

I think one major issue here is also defining what “casualty” means as this is critical.

In the most accurate/military sense a casualty is KIA/MIA/WIA. Now in this reference seems to clearly state that “casualty” does not mean KIA. This seems a bit odd because you could just as easily say “wounded” rather than “casualty” and avoid any potential co fusion of people not know if the data is referring to KIA/WIA, or are they assuming just WIA. I think that is an important distinction (more on that later).

For arguments sake let us assume this data only reverse to the chance of being wounded. That encompasses a huge spectrum of minor shrapnel that doesn’t affect fighting ability, to being walking wounded, and severe injury such as losing a limb but still being alive.

Do we know what is the breakdown of these injuries, and so we know if they are accurately reflected in the game? I think the biggest gripe is that at more than minimum distance you may get “hit” but many times you are barely injured.

That can be calculated by fragment mass and velocity although frag shape also plays a role. Does crs know how to do it? No idea

Rarely… I’m content that gmlrs and ‘other things’ are working as they should. It will be a miserable winter In Ukraine this year….for everyone.

Just anecdotal, but I logged onto the server for the first time in a long time, and was killed by an artillery barrage near a bridge. That was the first time I'd ever encountered artillery in 20+ years playing this game, and I died to it FWIW.

I'll bet it warned the cockles of your heart.  As it should, fellow shell slinger.   You certainly had to wait long enough.  :)

There is definitely going to be some arty for FURY V . . . come join the fun and throw some fragments and smoke onto your fellow friends on the other side. :)

i would love to have like 10 arty guns battery :D it would be epic to cooperate with others :D

hehe :D you guys record the event on video too? i used to record epic assaults etc to youtube but nowadays im too lazy + it eats performance to play xd
