Can't cancel despawn?

What is with this I can't cancel my despawn?
I press ESC to despawn -- then change mind.

But it forces me to despawn?
That was never a thing before.... needs to be fixed.

Brought this up a bunch of times. 

If you're vehicle has a critical damage and you hit despawn, you can't stop the despawn timer.  Even if you are still combat-worthy, such as a tank that has lost it's engine but you still have your guns, or an ATG in position who has lost the commander.  You accidently hit the despawn button and you can't stop it. 

Patently ridiculous. 

It even happens with infantry when you are below a certain percentage of health.
