Mac Installer doesn't ask for authentication

The default Application's folder is only writable to by a user with administrative rights. The installer fails to ask for authentication so it can write to this folder.

Also, when you choose another location for the install, rather than putting just the application in the chosen location, it puts a folder called "Applications" containing the app in that location. The folder should either be named something related to the application or preferably, just the application should be placed without an enclosing folder.

The installer hasn't changed in years. I hope RickB put the code somewhere where I can examine it. Most people use OSX with the default admin setup, so this is only an issue if you have a user account that's not the default.
