The tweet is a video I made of the error.  Only way I could think to post video.  Looking directly forward (both 109 and spitfire tested) there isn't any engine noise.  Looking forward left and right and it's SUPER loud.  Looking right or left and it's normal.  Looking back left or right and the engine noise is completely gone.  Flew over flak and you could hear the explosions looking back so it's not that the sound is gone, it's just the engine.

IDK Chief. I use a corsair vengeance wireless headset and have full range directional sound. I can switch to my tv and sound still plays ok. Could be a driver or sound card setting.
