There was that one bug many years ago where you would land on one of the high cloud layers, but that didn't kill you.

So if we are thinking this has been happening for years, then it probably rules out the issue being related to the recent para changes.

The one thing I will try tonight is floating the para to over 4K and just dropping him. The chute opens automatically. So if he deploys the chute and doesn't instantly die it would suggest the issue is somehow related to the change in the paras state between being sat in the plane and changing to free-fall.

what about the new fall damage ?

I am pretty sure it might be the source for this bug

as you said ... player character changing state from sitting to "hanging" in a chute ...

I don't think it's related to the fall damage change. As Tatonka says, it's apparently a bug that been around for quite a while, and thus pre-dates that change.

Plus in the tools I have it tells me if fall damage is applied at any point, and I donl't recall seeing that when the para dies.

Interestingly I went to check out a theory the other night repeating exactly what I did when I first tested it, and the paras were dying on every drop. This time every single one dropped fine!

At the moment I'm kind of thinking it's somehow related to cloud layers, thus it differs depending on the weather. Currently snowed under with testing the current alpha for the next patch, but once that's out of the way I'll get back to this.

as far as i remember ... when you jump out of the plane and die ... you could hear an impact sound ... like you hear when jumping off a high story building

look at the videos. looks like the player gets "catapulted" out of the plane ... then he is mid air ... then dies. hit the elevator / back of plane ?

Well technically, infantry can be killed by vehicles, although they have to be enemy ones.

I guess it's possible that sometimes when you jump the inf could be hitting the para planes tail. But when I was testing and could get them to die, they died every single drop over 4k, but not under it, so I don't think it's that.

At the moment the issue is figuring out why some days they will die every drop over 4k, and others they won't.

I'll keep having a look at this but at the moment testing the next patch is my priority.

In lovewings video you can see the ping and packets in the first one and they don't appear to spike, but it does look like the rear wing does hit the para.

When I was testing and got them to die it wasn't seeing any spikes/lag, and was the only one on the server. Whilst I can't 100% rule that out I don't think its that.

I've finished my other testing for today so will go have a play with this and report anything I find.

So a brief update.

More testing has shown the deaths are almost certainly being caused by the plane hitting the para after it jumps.

We have a few ideas as to what may cause it, and it may be a combination of more than one thing.

It's ticketed , so will be looked at further, although I still need to find a way of getting it to happen every jump.

is there a certain seating position that it happens?

Not that I had noticed so far. I'm not 100% sure if all paras appear at the same point outside the plane when you jump, or if it's related to exactly where you are sat.

I'll have to ask the dev's about that.

Like I said, I think it's a combination of a couple of things that are causing this, however to test the seat theory means getting a few people together and doing multiple test drop making sure we note where everyone is sat and seeing if there is a pattern for the ones that die/.

I can certainly get my 3 accounts up on the training server if some of you want to test out this theory,
