    • You are missing the point I think ( unless I miss understand your post) Any other game out there you find a server and it actually shows you the players in said server. You log in you know you will run into someone due to map size and knowing before hand how many player are in said server. Here you log in and you do not know  the player numbers , you look at a huge  map that and all you see now is a flag in a few towns , and a whole bunch of other towns with no flags ( but dots which are really overlooked rather easily) Now as a new player I would go what the heck is going on here.   Why a shortage of HC cause many players don't want to deal with that aspect of the game , they want to fight /play /kill/capture and so on . They don't care about the strategy aspect of the game.  I have been with the game since 2001 , I have thought about HC a few times but then the few hours I have to play , I want to play and not play chess on a map. Sure that has now changed with 1.36 but then I have heard we lost a few HC members because if 1.36 . Well these players liked the chess aspect of the game the strategy part of it . That done they decided to leave.  Every action CRS does has a reaction . Heard also that the Hispanos 250 to the most part left the game and all it took was the change of the LMG . CRS might have gained a few players back but pretty much lost a whole Squad in the process.    At this time I don't know what's good anymore , changes that fundamentally change the whole game with the hopes to bring long lost players back. Or to just improve the game with new toys and bug fixes and keep the players we have and with the hopes older lost players come back. If you ask me I rather go with the 2nd option , cause banking on players coming back by changing the whole game has not worked so far.  But bug fixes that did drive players away and new stuff added to the game that does not change the overall feel seems to work a whole lot better. That's just my observation and opinion. We all know the game can't live without players, I might not log on as much right now but I still pay my sub . And it's getting warmer in Wisconsin so I have to take advantage of the 2 weeks of summer we get here
    • The skills thing (pip for nodes, etc) is a great idea, but I'd have those earned based on current streak (it need not be a pure streak given the nature of this game, but something that none the less resets fairly often. So perhaps you keep the skill as long as you respawn from the same facility, etc. This might apply to a meaningful rank, as well. "Rank" here is a poor term, because it has a RL meaning, and in this sense I would use it to control the spawns more rationally. Ie, most inf on the ground should always be rifles. Most tanks should be the most numerically common tanks, etc.
    • The bugs and features that require coders like me, generally take a lot of time to investigate and fix, I only get a couple of hours some evenings after my child is in bed, therefore things take weeks or in some cases months to complete. I wish I had more time to fix/add more things quicker but I don't. All the volunteer coders put in as much time as they can. Just remember that there is also a Production team that fix bugs and add features too so half of the work is done by them.
    • Ya, Silky and I did a thread on a whole redo of the system.    If I were designing the whole thing, you would earn points which you could then cash in to unlock whatever.  Better stuff would still require rank, which would be an unlock point buy just like equipment. I would also extend it to some special ability each persona could have that are not powerups in the classic videogame sense but are useful powers/skills.  So your army persona could have translator to understand enemy chat, the ability to swim has to be bought, climb trees, grenade throwing pip showing where your rifle or hand-thrown grenade will go, demolition specialist can double HE damage, camouflage specialist can camo tanks/FMS/gun positions etc.   Better to get a constant stream of goodies and have a goal to get to, and still have goals even after your preferred equipment is available.   Potentially you could use a similar system for a KOTH/leadership actions as opposed to kills.  Provide leadership, people vote you points, KOTH points have to be earned to get into HC and/or open AOs or other game actions, rewards for leadership actions and proof positive that your comrades get value from them.
    • That camping even exists as a large scale thing is entirely poor game design. I'd fix the camping, regardless.
    • I guess I forgot this, but I would have been one of the people who entirely supported it.
    • Originally, the game was set to gain points for rank, if you died your points got wiped out and you had to earn them again.  Very hardcore.  Very unpopular.
    • *** What is the purpose of rank, exactly? True, in this game it is to get more gear. But, I think gear should be earned separate from rank, maybe as experience points. Then let squad COs assign the rank to their members, so as to show squad organization. I want sergeants, corporals and privates in my squad..... not 5 Lt Col, 2 Maj and 3 Lt.
